What with class odes, histories, prophecies, ivy poems, com
mencement addresses and local news, fiction seems to have been
crowded out of the majority of the June exchanges. However,
among the few that did find space for it we found some very ex
cellent articles. The verse, too, seemed to have some of the
gayety and sprightliness of the season, giving an enlivening touch
to pages that otherwise would have appeared dull and uninterest
ing. Then, also, there are half-tones, artotypes and other types
galore, all of which, though in some cases rather excessive, gave
a better appearance to the journals. All in all, the commence
ment issues were a decided success
Among the foremost of those which claim our attention on ac
count of merit, to say nothing of appearance, is the Bowdoin
Quill. In the whole number there is not a single dry page, while
its verse clipplings are only of the very best. “Ye postman ” is
ever eagerly awaited.
The Muhlenberg, following the example of this season of meta
morphosis, has changed her dress. And, to our eyes, the change
is for the better.
