1897.] This is the term when the athletic abilities of the college can best be judged. In general athletics, basket ball and base ball the candidates are showing themselves, but the numbers are few, and it is evident that some are still in the background waiting to be shoved to the front before showing their merits. There is one most potent factor in building up a college, and that is by its athletics, so if you have any abilities in that line help the college that much by giving your hearty support to it. Your class team needs you to help win the cup in the midwinter contest this term, We want good teams in baseball, basket ball, and in general athletics, and we need the held of every student who is able to give us any asssistauce. Every student at the college should have his name enrolled as a member of the Athletic Association. Don’t wait until there is an important election, and join simply to get a vote for a friend of yours, and then stay away the rest of the time. Join at the beginning of the year, and attend every meeting, whether it may be of importance in your estimation or not. Too often the question is asked, ‘ ‘ What is the meeting for ?” and the attendance is often determined by this question alone. If it were not nec essary, meetings would not be called. Several times the meetings of the Association have been ad journed owing to the fact that a quorum could not be secured. This is shameful, to say the least, as it shows a disinterested senti ment among the student body and a lack of college spirit. L,et everyone join the Association, the under, as well as the upper classmen and let us get some enthusiasm into the meetings. We are indeed glad to learn that the Mandolin and Guitar Club expects to take a trip during the Easter vacation. The members have been practicing faithfully since the beginning of the college year, and we hope that they will meet with the success they deserve. It is to be regretted, though, that they are not ac companied by a Glee Club. It seems as though these clubs should be permanent organiza tions, the same as the base ball and foot ball teams, in which new members are taken in every year as they are qualified for positions. Even if it were impossible to take trips every year the club could keep in practice and train members for succeeding years. Organiz- Editorial.
