An organization has been made in the Sophomore class known
as the Sophomore Cotillion Club. The club expects to give a
dance at commencement and possibly one yet this term.
The Adelphi Club dance held in the University Inn, February
17, was a very enjoyable affair and was attended by about thirty
couples. Music was furnished by Neff's Orchestra of Altoona.
A large lantern for illustrated lectures has been purchased by
the mechanical department. It will no doubt facilitate the ex
planation of many subjects which would otherwise be quite diffi
cult.
The collection of birds and animals which composed a part of
the Pennsylvania exhibit at Chicago and Atlanta has been ssnt
here temporarily. It will take some time to set up the collection
for exhibition.
The following Seniors have been honored by being elected
members of the Scientific Association: L. B. Carter, B. J. Bowen,
J. F. McCormick, W. B. McCaskey, J. F. Glosser, F. W. Jessop„
W. E. Snyder.
The members of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity desire to ex
press, through the LANCE, their thankfulness to all persons who.
generously helped to remove furniture from their house, and to
those who provided for the wants of the sufferers from the fire.
On the evening of February i a good sized audience was enter
tained in the chapel by the well known reciter and humorist,
Judge Green, 'Of Brooklyn. The judge has made a number of
friends here who always give him a hearty welcome each time he
returns.
Prof. Voss has received for the civil engineering department a
set of Schroder's models to be used in the study of descriptive
geometry and perspective, also a fine celestial globe and a slated
globe for the class in astronomy and geodesy. These articles
were imported direct from Germany.
State will probably send an athletic team to Philadelphia to
compete in the intercollegiate relay race meeting to be held there
on April 25. This meeting is open to all colleges and universi
ties of the United States and Canada. The colleges are arranged
in groups of four, making them as nearly equal in strength as pos
sible. The occasion will no doubt be one of general interest and
will give a stimulus to athletics.
