discountenance the formation of these so-called “ athletic clubs,”
and the more quickly they are discountenanced, and the more
quickly the public is made aware of the fact the better it will be
for college athletics.
STATE, 16; BUCKNEEE, o.
The third game of the season was played with Bucknell, at
Williamsport, Oct. 26th.
Since football came into prominence at the institution an
annual game has been played between these teams.
It is needless to say much interest was shown, as each team was
confident of winning.
State’s team, although somewhat overtrained, played the same
fast, snappy game which crowned her success last year, and
which has saved her from being scored upon so far this season.
The game in detail is as follows:
Bucknell kicks out of bound twice and the ball goes to State.
State kicks off and Bucknell carries ball to 20-yard line. Buck
nell makes 1 yard through tackle, gains 5 yards, fails to gain in
next two downs and kicks.
Thompson receives ball, passes to Brown who makes a 5 yard
gain. Thompson 5 yards, Brown 5, J. G. Dunsmore 4, Thomas
2, McKibbin no gain, J. G. Dunsmore 5. For “ holding ” State
loses ball.
Bucknell gains 2 yards, gains 5> gaius 4, gains 5> 110
Bucknell goes around right end and what looked good for a 20
yard gain was reduced to 4 yards by a brilliant tackle by Capt.
McCaskey. Bucknell gains 4 yards, loses ball by off side play..
State lines up on 50-yard line. First two downs State gains
2 yards each. J. G. Dunsmore 10, Brown 3.
Ball changes hands. No gain, gains 2, Bucknell kicks, State
returns kick. Bucknell gets ball on 40-yard line, fails to gain in
next two <;lowns and kicks, State returns kick. Bucknell’s ball
on 50 yard line. Bucknell gains 2 yards, gains 5, gain x, gains
4, gains 1, loses 1, loses 5.
State’s ball. Brown gains 8 yards, first two downs, Thomas
xo, J. A. Dunsmore 5, Brown 3, J. G. Dunsmore 5, Brown 5,
Thomas 3. State fumbles and loses 6 yards. State kicks, Buck
nell fumbles, and Thomas takes ball to their 30-yard line. Brown
gains 4 yards, Thomas 8, Thompson 10, Brown 4. State fumbles,
but gains 4 yards. J. G. Dunsmore through tackle for 10 yards,
