and in the laboratory.
Biology (Botany and /oology): theoretical and practical. Students
taught original study with the microscope.
Chemistry. (General and Technological ) with an unusually full and
thorough course in the Laboratory.

History: Ancient and Modern, with original investigation.
Language and Literature: Latin (optional), French, German and
English (required), one or more continued through the entire
course.
Mathematics and Astronomy: pure and applied.
Mechanic Arts: combining shop work with study, three years’ course.
Mental , Moral and Political Science: Ethics, Constitutional Law and
History, Political Economy, &c.
Military Science: instruction theoretical and practical, including each
arm of the service.
Preparatory Department : One year—carefully graded and thorough.
