DICKINSON vs. STATE
The following account of the game with Dick
inson, taken from the Philadelphia Press, will show
how our team is regarded by our opponents. It is
by such notices as this that the public• forms its
opinion of the institution. For this once, let us
see ourselves as others see us.
Carlisle, April I/ (Special).—The game against
State College resulted in a victory for Dickinson.
State does not adhere to the undergraduate rule,
as she presented the crack professionals of the
State League in the persons of Hodson and Reed.
For Dickinson, Lantz distinguished himself by
making three doubles and a single. His fielding
was out of sight. Nattress and Bowman played
well for Dickinson. Himes pitched a strong
game. For the visitors, neither of the League
stars distinguished themselves, but of the colle
gians, Stuart and Robinson played strongly.

son game. The condition of the field caused by
a drizzling rain just before the game, was a slight
disadvantage to both teams. State by her heavy
batting scored four runs in the first inning, two in
the fifth, and one in the second, third, eighth and
ninth. Mattern played an excellent game as pitch
er in spite of a painful arm. Atherton kept so
well up with the game as to catch one man be
tween first and second baSes ; a very significant
pointer which resulted in the visitors stealing one
base only during the entire game. The work in
the diamond and field was exceedingly good, and
had it not been an ''off day" for our short-stop
the game would have resulted in a victory for the
home team. The visitors were a State League
