our record for the first two innings and it looked
like a shut out till a bad error in the third gave
the opposing team two runs. We got three more
runs in our half of the fourth but Atherton weak
ened in Dickinson's half and five men crossed the
plate making the score Bto 7. Cur boys got
themselves together the nand played hard, keeping
the others from scoring till the last inning when
they got two more. We in the meantime had
gotten two in the sixth, two in the eighth and one
in the ninth, giving us a good lead. Our boys
played with snap and vigor, and Dickinson's score
would have been smaller had Atherton not
given out. As it was he made one very bril
liant play. In the seventh, he gave three men
their bases with none our, and then the next three
men who were among Dickinson's best hitters, he
struck out in one two three order. This play
aroused tremendous enthusiasm. Our boys clear
ly had the advantage though no one could have
been sure of the result till the last inning. Hines
did good work in the box, and showed up well at
the bat. Bowman who started in to catch was
compelled to give up owing to a sore hand, and
Grissinger who had been playing short stop was
put in his place. Goodall, Lantz, Hines, Griss
inger and Bowman did good work for their team,
Curry did not give us the fine article of ball he
did last year. On our side Atherton and Harts
wick in the points showed up finely, while Buzard,
Mackey, Stuart and Lowell deserve special praise.
Mattern did some heavy hitting, and clever base
running, haVing four runs and three hits to his
credit. Robison was laid off in the second in
ning on account of sickness and Barndollar took
his place. Harry the bull-dog was there in all
his glory and brought good luck to the team in
plenty. Dr. Atherton and Gov. Beaver witnessed
the game and took a keen interest in it. This is
our second victory, but as both games were played
on the home grounds they cannot be taken as
standards of %%hat our boys will do when away
The score was as follows:
