    —The House Appropriation committee visited
the college on April 14. Messrs., Fow of Phila
delphia and chairman of the committee, Wm. T.
Marshall, of Allegheny, made an address in which
they expressed themselves as satisfied with the
growth and progress of the college.
—A party of Seniors went trout fishing in fa
mous Spruce Creek, May 6. They returned the
following Monday reporting a jolly time and
trout great in number and size. Those compos
ing the party were, C. R. Fay, D. W. Gross, H.
W. Mattern, J. M. Small and R. W. Williamson.
—Prof. Hitchcock, who was assisting Prof. Re
ber with his work for the World's Fair, gave it as
his opinion that the finest part of the college ex
hibit was the material shown . by the Chemistry
Department. In completeness, selection and ar
rangement, it can with difficulty be surpassed,
and it is highly probable that it will draw a prize
medal before the Fair closes.
—The annual flag racket, caused by the attempt
of the Sophomores to tear down the Freshman
flag, took place on the east campus about 6
o'clock, Saturday morning, April 22. After mak
ing three unsuccessful rushes, the Sophomores
withdrew their forces and gave '96 the victory.
'96 kept the flag up till 9 o'clock, when it was
hauled down with cheers and singing.
—The second annual Handicap Field meet was
held on Beaver Athletic Field, Saturday, April 22,
'93. Fisher '96, broke the State inter-collegiate
16 lb. hammer record by 4ft. i in. which also
breaks the college record. Both the running high
jumps and pole vault college records were also
broken. The events and• records were as follows—

F. Mattern. Running high jump by Connelly, 5 ft.
5 in., breaking,college record by 33% in., sec
ond Kuhn, '96. Pole vault won by Caughey '93,
9 ft. in., second Thompson, '96. 220 yds
dash' won by White, '94, 27 sec., second, Kremer,
'94. Running broad jump.won by Connelly, iBft
in. 220 yds. hurdle won by Connelly, 32 5 2 sec.

%mile walk won by Brown, '93, 3 min. 62 sec.,
second, Dunkle, '93. Putting 161 b. shot won by
Fisher, '96, 37 ft. sin., equaling the State record,
second Moore, '96. % mile run won by White,
'94, 2 min. 205 sec., second Scott. 440 yds. dash
won by F. Mattern, '94, 6o sec.; second Damon.
z6lb. hammer won by Fisher, '96, 94ft. 9 in.,
breaking State record, second Moore, '96. z
mile run, won by Scott, 5 min. 35 sec., second,
White, '94.
—A musicale was given in the college chapel
Wednesday evening, April 26, under the direc
tion of Miss Willard. The following programe

Another laurel was won by our boys on the dia
mond, Saturday May i3th. We played Dickin
son and finally succeeded in downing her by the
score of 13 to 9. The playing on both sides was
quite good, though the fielding might have been
improved. Both Dickinson and our own team
made costly errors in the field. Our boys were
first to the bat, and it looked for a while as if we
were going to have as mach of a walk over as we
had with Bucknell. Five runs and seven hits was
~Angel's Serenade—Cornet Solo with orchestra
