PERSONALS. Ex-’9S- S. K. Woodring, of Bellefonte, is on an engineering corps which is constructing a railroad from Beech Creek to Kittanning, Pennsylvania. '92. Willis McKee has also left home to accept a lucrative position with the same company and at the same place as Waldron and Mock. ’9l. J. F. Shields spent a short visit at the Col lege during the Thanksgiving vacation. He had intended to be present for the reception on Friday evening but owing to some unforseen delays did not arrive until the following morning. ’9O. J. C. Mock is at present situated with the Union Switch and Signal Company at Hudson, New York. ’9O. F. A. Bryan has secured an important posi tion with an electrical company situated at Rome, New York. ’B9. J. M. Waldron has left the Pittsburg firm with which he was engaged, and is now connected with the Hudson, New York, branch of the Union Switch and Signal Company. ’B5. Mrs. A. L. Miller, nee Miss E. B. Patter son made a short visit to the home of her parents, in State College, during the early part of this month, in company with her husband, the Rev. A. Lawrence Miller, of Danville. ’B2. A. E.’Canfield, a prominent lumber dealer ofWyncote, Pennsylvania, was in Bellefonte on November 25th last and intended to pay a short visit to the college, but was prevented from so do ing by business engagements. Mrs. McFarland and Miss Aimee Zane, of West Chester, were the guests of Mrs. McFarland’s son, George, at the Kappa Sigma House during the va- cation Lieut. S. S. Pague, a former commandant of the institution, and wife are visiting at Columbia, Pennsylvania, and will be there until after Christ mas. Lieut. Pague is at present stationed with his regiment at Fort Sheridan, 111. THE FRESE LANCE. Capt. C. W. Roberts and family and a party of young lady friends spent the recent Thanksgiving vacation at the College and attended the Senior reception. The press has made many complimentary re marks upon the address of President Atherton be fore the Middle States College Association which met at Swathmore College during Thanksgiving vacation. He urged a better preparation ..for col lege by the secondary schools of the state and furnished some valuable statistics drawn from the various schools of Pennsylvania. Dr. Atherton, Dr. Armsby and Dr. Frear at tended the recent meeting of the Agricultural Col leges and Experimental Stations Association at New Orleans. Dr. Atherton responded to the address of welcome by the Governor of Louisiana, and Dr. Armsby was put on a committee to carry on a series of milk tests. The work will be done at Chicago and will probably last during all of next summer. The University Magazine, published in New York City, in the November number, said in its editorial columns: “At least one college has se cured a valuable addition to its faculty, for we note that Prof. William C. Thayer, an. early alumnus of Columbia has just been offered the chair of Modern Languages in the Pennsylvania State College, Centre county. We congratulate both Dr. Thayer and the college.” Miss Katherine Gossler, of Columbia, was mar ried to Mr. Lucius K. Fon Dersmith, cashier Ist National bank, of Wrightsville, on Nov. 30th, at 7 o’clock, in the Presbyterian church, Columbia, by the Rev. George W. Ely.
