    It is now stated positively that the first engine
will run into State College by the ist of April,
N. M. Loyd while practicing in the gymnasium
for the winter athletic contest, sprained his ankle
and will be unable to walk for some time.
Shields, '92, Small and Fay '93, F. Mattern
'94 and Cartwright '95, have been elected by the
Athletic Association as members of the base-ball
committee.
At the recent indoor athletic meeting Cart
wright, '95 and Hildebrand, '92, took trainer's
team caps for throwing the sixteen pound shot,
and Brown, '92 for one mile walk.
The tragedy, "Clorate," which was to have
been presented by the Cresson Literary Society,
on Feb. 26th, has been indefinitely postponed on
account of the illness of one of the actors,
The Triangle Whist Club met at the (P. J
chapter house, on Saturday evening, of the i9th
inst., and instituted the Duplicate whist method,
which shall hereafter i.)e played at all the meetings.
The first Public Rhetorical Exhibition this term
was held, in the college chapel, on Wednesday
evening, Feb. tryth. The following persons took
part : Of the Junior class, Foster, Haas, Krum
rine and Gross. Of the Sophomore class, Belt,
Patrick and L. Mattern, itnd of the Freshman
class Cartwright, Mathias, W. J. Moore, McDon
ald, Hall, A. E. Hollenbeck and R. S. Moore.
This was an exceptionally good exhibition and all
the speakers deserve praise.
Miss Kathryn Pemberton entertained her many
friends with a Progressive Heart's party, at her
home, on Friday evening, March llth. It was one
of the most enjoyable affairs of the season and the
excitement evinced by some, as to probable results
of games, was one of the amusing features of the
evening. The prizes were very pretty, ornament
al and useful, and well worth striving for. Miss
Sawyer, Miss Stuart and Messrs. Downing and
Hildebrand were the fortunate ones in the con
test.

At a recent meeting of the board of directors of
the foot-ball• team, R. W. Williamson, from '93,
was elected manager of the team for the next
season
M, T. Swartz, '94 was compelled to leave col
lege, and return to his home at Lancaster, Pa.,
during the past months on account of sickness.
He expects to return to his duties here in a short
time.
Work has been started on the extension of the
Bellefonte Central R. R., which will terminate at
the new engineering building. About roo men are
employed at present and the work is being pushed
with great energy so as to have it completed by
the first of April. The entire length of road to
be built is about r miles.
At a recent meeting of the Four Hundred, A.
F. Damon, J. T. Chambers and Mr. Geo. Holier
%vere indefinitely suspended from society for vio
lations of the constitution on the evening of Feb.
22nd, and Mr. Geo. Dawning, E. J. Haley and
N. M. Loyd were elected and initiated into mem
bership. The organization has actively set about its
work of remodeling State College society and ex
pects to have its work completed at about the
same time as the Bellefonte Central R. R.
At a meeting of the faculty, previous to Feb.
220 d, it was decided by them that all the regular
college exercises would be suspended from Friday
afternoon, Feb. r9th, till Tuesday morning, Feb.
23id, on account of Monday, the 22n d , being a
legal holiday, and also to give the students living
near the college an opportunity to spend Sunday
at their homes. The action of the faculty in this
matter was highly appreciated by all the students,
as was• shown by utilizing their time to the best
advantage, and by their prompt return to their
work.
According to what has hitherto been the pre
vailing custom the Freshman class held its banquet
at Achenbach's dining parlors, in Bellefonte, on
