The Prayer meeting of the Y. M. C. A. on Sun
day evening, May 24th, was especially interesting
because of the presence of Mr. Gilbert A. Beaver,
Asst. State Secretary, and Mr. Hillard, College
Secretary of California.
The first annual contest in English oration and
declamation of the Preparatory Department was
held in the chapel on the afternoon of Friday,
June r9t h. The first prize in orations was taken
by A. E. Blackburn, and the second by L. Ray
Morgan. 0. P. Redford took the first prize in
declamations, A. T. Welty the second, and Miss
Moe B. Krape the third.

ANNOUNCEMENT OP JUDGES' DECISIONS
l'rof. and Mrs. Reber gave a farewell reception
to the Senior Class on Thursday evening, June
23. Their pleasant parlor were brilliantly and
tastefully decorated with, palms and flowers. In
various games, in music, and in conversation the
evening passed pleasantly.
Prof. and Mrs. Buckout gave a reception ,to
their friends on Tuesday evening, June 23.
Among recent social events one of the most
pleasant and enjoyable was the reception or rather
receptions given by Prof. and Mrs. Jackson to the
members of the faculty on Thursday evening,
June 17, and Saturday evening, June 27.

On Tuesday evening, June 23, the State Col-
lege Band, headed by Mr. John Kerrigan, sere
naded Dr. Atherton. When• Dr. Atherton made
his appearance, Mr. Kerrigan on b2half of the
citizens of the town greeted him in a very neat
little speech. Dr. Atherton replied in his usual
happy manner, thanking them for their kind
wishes, and expressing the hope that the present
prosperity and growth of the town may continue.
Upon receipt of the news that Governor Patti
son had signed the State College Appropriation
Bill there was a general rejoicing among the stu
dents, Faculty and friends of our institution.
In the afternoon of June loth there was a meet
ing held in the College Chapel. Music was fur-
