as a tug of-war outfit, vaulting apparatus, shots,
hammers, hurdles, etc., and if they won’t get
them raise the money yourselves and purchase
them. There is no reason whatever why P, S. C.
should not have one, two or three representatives
every winter at the Inter-collegiate Indoor Sports
held in Philadelphia once or twice each year.
All these enterprises are entirely with yourselves.
The sporting ground is emphatically the student’s
domain. It is for him to say whether such a
sport shall prosper or not. If you do not show
interest, what reason have you to expect much
encouragement from those in authority. Demon
strate, then, this winter that money expended on
gymnasium apparatus is one of the best invest
ments of the institution. C. H.

Mr. Editor :—As I have noticed in your pa
per from time to time references as to the advance
made by the corps of cadets, it appeared to me
that there is one opportunity which the cadets of
P. S. C. have enjoyed in the past, much to their
approval and also to their decided advantage, I
mean the encampment of the battalion for a few
days during the Spring term.
In no military institution of note are the cadets
for the whole year confined to drill on the camp
us, and at the same time to pursue their studies.
There are many military movements which re
quire for their proper execution more than the
ground allotted to you daily, and it would seem
that as military instruction is part of all your
prescribed courses of study, you ought to
have at least a few days in which to get an insight
into the more advanced parts of your tactics.
Target practice, for instance, you have not had
for some time, and guard duty cannot properly
be executed except by, a genuine experience in
camp. Many other advantages are to be realized
which are very well known to your Commandant
if not to yourselves.
As you have not enjoyed this privilege for

It was found necessary either to dismiss John
Hennon or to keep the ladies in the cottage after
dark. Fortunately for that gentleman the latter
was the conclusion reached.
The new arc light system in the Physics build
ing is now in working order. The system has
been put up with great care by the Electrotechnic
students under the direct supervision of Prof.
Osmond.
A few of the students will remain at the college
during the Christmas Holidays. Some of them
will be kept by special work, while others live so
far away that it is useless for them to go.

say to you as a corps of cadets, that if you would
bring yourselves up to the highest attainable
standard, create a feeling among those who have
drilled upon the campus and in the armory so
long that they see nothing in it but mere routine,
such that they shall aspire to get outside the lim
its of the campus fence, and spend a few days in
actual army life. In this way I think you may
see an interest spring up for which you have not
been accustomed to look. C.
