while to accumulate evidence to prove that
precept and practice are two different
things, or that very many men in this j

remiss in their own personal conduct.
Yet the last Ttviperance Vindicator con
tains such a glaring example of Precept vs.
Practice that I am tempted to Tefer to it.
In the column and a half editorial devoted
to Tlte Allflanian, intte issue cf that pa
per for the present week, and in which
your journal is spoken of as the "advocate
of the whisky interest the most contempt
ible and God-forsaken business that has
the sanction of an infamous law" occurs
the following very forcible, if not very el
egant, sentcaca : "We say whisky-seiUng
is a murderous business, and the seller is
a murderer, fur he gives to men the
wherewith to take their own lives, and
that which causes them to murder their
fellow men." Now turn, if you please, to

Cope, editor of the Xtac-ncrs' Adcocat,
having removed from Kbensburg to Jchns
town, that paper will hereafter be publish
ed at the latter place. Mr. C. has been
chosen Superintendent of Common Schools
for Johnstown, for which position he is
well qualified. We may ?.dd that the
Teachers' Advocate is a very able educa
tional journal , and worthy of very extend
ed supporL Every, school teacher ought
to take it.
A number of the juveniles of this place
celebrated the May anniversary by holding
a party in the town hall. They seemed
