Lancaster Tp. July 30, 1SGU.
Messhs. Evans and Watson: Gentlemen
The small size No. 1 Salamander safe which
I purchased from your agent, Mr. Adam K.
Bat, in Lancaster City, on July 20th. 185?.
lias been suojected to a
very severe test,
which it withstood m a most satisfactory
manner. This Safe, containing all my books,
together with valuable papers Lelons-ine' to
myself and some to my neignbors and friends,
and. representing a value of over Twenty Thou
sand Dollars, (20,000) was in my Mill which
was destroyed on the night of the 27th of Ju.
ly, 18G0, and passed thtough the fiery ordeal
unscathed. The Safe wat on the second fiuor
and fell to the basement of the Mill, anj was
subjected for six hours to an intense heat
among the rui.is, which was greatly increased
by the combustion of a large quantity of grain
confined within thp brick walls. After the
fire the safe was opened and the books au4
papers taken out in a state of perfect prtser
vation, the paper not even being discolored.
This fact was, however, to many bystanders
a better recommendation of your Sarts than
could be expressed in anv- other words freni
me. Yours Respeetfullv,
Man!
