I. AViiinTotrs Anecdote.- M. Fevrnet VTtiJiis readers of the Paris. lZemps a curious aTiecdcte in regard to the Pay & Martin's blacking, which has been adver tised throughout the world, and even on (he, Egyptian Pjraroids : ' One afterboou,Jl:ty, then a poor work man, wa3 drinking his mug of half-and-half in a London ale-housey wheD a poor and ragged, individual entered, and, ad dressing himself to th6Se present, said ""Who will give me a pint of ale for a good recipe far. blacking "I Vfill," said Day, and he ordered the pint of ale for the new comer. - "Now let us have it," said he, and his new friend gave him the desired document. "Good '." said Pay ; "now I will give jou another pint," which the unknown drank and then took his leave. The nxt morning Pay sought ono of his friends, a commercial traveler named Martin, and showed him the recipe. They made a quantity of the blacking, and filled all the old bottle3 they could obtain with the mixture. . . This done, a friend of the partners went to all the grocers and blackiug merchants of Londonand addressed to eaeh cue the question, "Have yoil Pav & Martin's blacking?" And all the shopkeepers raturally enough auswered "No." The next day, another friend went the rounds, and to each merchant he pro pounded what his predecessor had done, and in each case he received the same answer. ' ' ' The next day, another friend went to each merchant, but this time the question was, "Would you like to buy BOtne of Pay & Martio's blacking V - All the merchauts answered, "Willing ly," and the fortune of the house of P3y & Martin was made. .: They adopted for their label the pic ture of a cat engaged jn seeing his image reflected in. the polished surface of a boot, as in a mirror, and this label has become world-famous. It only remains to be said that Pay, on the occasion of his daugh ter's marriage, was enabled to give her 39 a wedding gift the nice littlo sum of two hundred thousand dollars. A Remarkable Case. A correspon dent last week writes as follows to the editor of the Meadville (Crawford county) Democrat: "The little boy of W. U. Piefler, of whom you published the fact of his being drowned (some three weeks ago,) in your last week's issue, has been found. . The circumstances of the finding of his body aro very remarkable. A young man, nephew to Esquire Rupert, of Wood cock borough, dreamed on Saturday night last, that he found the little boy at a par ticular ppot in French creek ; the dream being impressed upon his mind, he went next morning, Sabbath, to the spot where he had dreamed he found the body, and there, strange as it may appear, found little Edward. There is auother remark able incident or circumstance in the drowning of this little boy. When he was lat seen, or when he left home, he had a tick in bis hand. That same stick was found in his hand when 'hip body was discovered." 1807. SPRIXG! NEW 1867. NEW NEW NEW CHEAP . No medicine for the cure of Rheumatism has , -ever- attained to such a high degree of favor and universality as . JCS'ON'SWEUMATlbljbMPCNTi. Although but one'year before the public, this medicine has justly gained an unbounded popularity. When the originator firstintro duced it, he was convinced of its efficacy, but he little supposed it was destined to-prove such an inestimable blessing to the afflicted. But "true merit' cannot be suppressed. The attestation of hundreds who have been cured by its nse, must prove the truth of the assertion, "THAT IT IS A RADICAL CURATIVE FOR INFLAMMATORY AND ACUTE RHEUMA TISM, GOUT. NEURALGIA, AND KINDRED DISEASES." We recommend it with confidence as THE GREAT INTERNAL' REMEDY, For the Speedy and Positive Cure of the above Complaints. . . . " Messrs. R. E.
