Mr. Editor: I find in a volume of
" Poems of the Hebellion " the following
stanzas, written by R. L. Johnston, Esq.
I think thein worthy of reproduction.
They appeared originally in the Johns
town Tribune, and were brousht to my
mind by hearing them recited in a most
impressive manner, by Cyrus Elder, Esq.,
at a Union meeting in the Court House,
at Ebensburg. t. m. s.
"BE BRAVE."
Mrs. G., whose sons, four in number, left
their homes with the Johnstown volunteers,
t defend their country, in parting with them
only uttered the words, " Be Brave !"
"Be Brave V the patriot mother said,
When direful war's alarjia
Across Columbia's valleys spread,
J nd called her sons to arms.
4 Be Brave !" no more heroic word j
The Spartan mother gave, f
When at Thermpyle was heard
The d:n of war " Be Brave 1"
Go' forth, ye gallant Volunteers,
Though dangers may be rife,
To fight for all that man reveres,
For 'tis your country's strife.
And Ilcnven propitious smiles on all
That die their land to save ;
A nation mourns you if you fall
Then forward, and ;' Be Brave!"
And whether near your mountain home
Your serried hosts shall tread,
Or by the wild Potomac roam,
Near Vtrnon's mighty dead ;
Or where the sultry Southern sand
The sweet Santee shall lave:
At home abroad on sea, or land,
Tress forward, and " Be Brave 1"
When mothers thus their jewels give
Upon their country's shrine,
That country cannot, cease to live
Her mission is divine.
And, Cambria, such tby matrons are !
And where the coward slave
Would falter when her virtuous Fair -
Bids all her son3 " Be Brave !

see for yourself the surprising activity with
which it cleanses the blood and cures these
disorders.
During lato years, the public have been
misled by large bottles, pretending to give a
quart of Extract of Sarsaparilla for one dol
lar. Most of these have been frauds upon
the sick, for they not only contain little, if
any, Sarsaparilla, but often no curative in
gredient whatever. Hence, bitter disappoint
ment has followed the use of the various ex
tracts of Sarsaparilla which flood the market
until the name itself has become synonymous
with imposition and cheat. Still we call this
compound ''Sarsaparilla," srnd intend to sup
ply such a remedy as shall rescue the name
from the load of obloquy which rests upon it.
We thinkvsre have cround-for believin? it has

it is useless here to recount the evidence of
its Virtues. The world knows them.

For the Speedy and Positive Cure of tha
above Complaints.
Messrs. R. Sellers & Co: ThU is to
certify that for the last sixWn years I bav
been severely afflicted with rheumatism, of
ten confined to my hou.-e, and even unable to
walk. Being in the Postoflice, about tro
months ago. Mr. Clark observed my crippled
condition, and urged me to try a bottle of
"Johnson's Rheumatic Compound." I fol
lowed his advice and now, by the blessing of
God, and the use of half a bottle of 3-our
"Corcpound," I am free from all symptoms
of rheumatism, and can walk without the aid
of my staff, as well as ever.

Mr. R. E. Selleks: Your Vermituge pos
sesses more virtue than any I ever used. I
will state a case where I gave one vial. My
brother's child was p;ning and wasting to a
mere skeleton. In thirty-six hours after I
gave the Vermifuge, the enormous quantity
of upward of six hundred worms were passed.
The child that was given up for lost, is now
as well as any iu t e neighborhood.
