POLITICAL MEETINGS IN THE SOUTH OF THE
COUNTY PROPOSED RECEPTION TO PRESIDENT
JOHNSON CAMP MEETING BUSINESS, 4C
Johnstown, Sept. 11, 1866.
Dear Alley.; Of news local, we have
little to write about, but of news political,
we have an abundance. On Friday eve
ning last, a Johnson Club was organized
here, composed of men whose feelings
have hitherto been anti-Democratic. Mr.
Keim, of the Fifth ward, is the President
of the club.
On Saturday evening, a large Republi
can meeting was held on the public
square, which was addressed by S. Calvin,
Esq., of Hollidaysburg, and Gen. Geary.
The same evening, a Democratic meeting
to ratify the nomination of R. L. Johns
ton, E.q., for Congress, was held at Cone
maugh. Preparations are on foot to give a
reception to President Johnson on his
arrival in our town on Saturday next.
The Joh nson Club and the Democratic
club are moving in the matter.
A camp meeting has been in progress
for several days in Richland township,
some five miles from our town. On Sun

Onto Ball at Uemlocli.
7b th$ Editor of Th AUrgJlanian i
Oil Saturday afternoon of last week, a Tery
interesting social gam? at base ball was
played at Hemjpk, Cambria county, between
the First Nine of the Highland Club of that
place and the First Nine of the- Ebensburg
Club. The day was wet and lowering till
neon, but when play was tailed, at one o'
clock, the clouds had broken, and the sun
came forth in his glory, yet not with suffi
cient fervor in hia glad beams to entirely
lickup the moisture which covered the
grounds as with a mantle. Despite the
dampness, the play on both sides wai good
and the game well contested. It resulted,
after a three hours struggle, in the success of
the Ebensburghers. Quite a large concourse
of spectator?, including a due proportion of
ladies, were present throughout the after
noon. The members of both Clubs were' sump
tuously entertained at the hotel of Messrs.
Wilkins & Trotter. On the two separate oc
casions of dinner and supper, the hospitable
board absolutely groaned with good tbing3,
to all which the boys paid their willing de
voirs after a manner conclusive of th?ir full
and entire appreciation of the way they keep
hotel in Hemlock.
In the evening, an interesting little episode
came off. 'Mein host" Wilkins, on behalf of
Miss Elizabeth A. Trotter and other ladie3 of
Hemlock, presented a gorgeous bouquet to
the Ebensburg Nine, accompanying the pre
sentation with a neat speech. The compli
ment was fittingly acknowledged by a member
of the Nine; after which, during anhour
which passed too soon, pop speeches were
made, songs were sung, and toasts were
drunk.
A little later, the Ebensburghers took the
train for home, unanimous in the conviction
that if a better town than Hemlock, or a
cleverer set of fellows than the Highlanders,
or a more hospitable people than over there
abound, have existence on the face of the
earih, they do not know it.
Mr. Miles Upton, of New York, acted as
umpire, and won the plaudits of all parties
by his promptness and impartiality. Mr. E.
D. Rhey for the Ebensburghers, and Mr. Wm.
Vaughn for the Highlanders, officiated accep
tably as scorers. Ebg.
RESOLUTION.
At a meeting of the First Nine of the Eb
ensburg B.ise Bali oiui,, held Monday even
ing, 10th instant, the following resolution was
unanimously adopted :
Retolved, That the thanks of this First
Nine are due and are hereby tendered the
Highland Base Ball Club for the kind and
courteous reception extended them on the
occasion of their late visit to Hemlock.
Mere words were inadequate to give expres
sion to the full measure of their appreciation
of the mu'titude of kindnesses showered upon
them, and they would therefore request, ear
nestly request, that the Highland Club visit
Ebensburg at an early day, to the end that
the debt incurred maj in a measure be can
celled by a return of hospitalities.

Mf.!!rs. R. E. Sellers & Co: This is to.
certify that for the last sixteen years I hav
been severely afflicted with rheumatism, of
ten confined to my house, and even unable to
walk. Being in the Postoffice, about two
months ago. Mr. Clark observed my crippled
condition, and urged me to trv a'bottle of
"Johnson's Rheumatic Compound." I fol
lowed his advice and now, by the blessing ot
God, and the use of half a bottle of your
"Compound," I am free from all symptom
of rheumatism, and can walk without the aid
of my staff, as well as ever.

Mr. R. E. Sellers: Your Vermifuge pos

will state a case where I gave one vial. My
brother's child was pining and wasting to ft
mere skeleton. In thirty-six hours after f
gave the Vermifuge, the enormous quantity
of upward of six hundrd worm3 were passed..
