OUR JOHNSTOWN JLETTER.
THB POLITICAL ' BALL OPENED UNIOH MASS
MEETINQ--FIRB BUSINESS MATTERSHEALTH,
AC, AO.
Johnstown, Aug. 13, 1866.
Dear Alleg. j The political ball was
opened here T7rjday evening last, on
the part of the Republican party, by a
mass meeting on the public square. The
meeting was addressed by Senator ITall,
of Blair county, Col. Jordon, Chairman
of the State Central Committee, and Hon.
Wm. Koontz, of Somerset.
On Saturday, one of the little frame
buildings on the Foster House property,
occupied by Mrs. Gillespie, a colored wo
man, took fire from an overheated tote
pipe, which ran through the roof, and the
whole roof was burned up ere the fire
could be extinguished. Fortunately the
day was calm and damp, otherwise no tel
ling where the conflagration might have
ended. To add to the discomfort of the
ttnlucky occupant, a heavy, continuous rain
commenced on Sunday morning and has
not yet abated.
Business continues dull, and tho town
has not recovered from the effects of the
prostration caused directly and indirectly
by the late strike.
The health of Johnstown continues
good, with the exception of a few sporadic
casts of diarrhea and an occasional instance
of dysentery. d. d.

THE GREAT INTERNAL REMEDY,
For the Speedy and Positive Cure of the
above Complaints.
Messrs. R. E. Sellers & Co: This is to
certify that for the last sixteen years I have
been severely afflicted with rheumatism of
ten confined to ray house, and even unable to
walk. Being in the Potoffice, about two
months ago. Mr. Clark observed my crippled
condition and urged, me to try a"bottle of
"Johnsons Rheumatic Compound." I fol
lowed his advice and now, by the bleasinir of
God, and the use of half a bottle ,of your
Compound," I am free from all symptoms
of rheumatism, and can walk without the aid
of my staff, as well as ever.
