Farmers. Now, at the very com
mencement of the harvest season, if you
ara wise, farmer-reader, you will arm and
equip yourself with a mowing machine, a
horse rake, &c. They will pay for them
selves in the course of two or three years.
Through the instrumentality of these
labor-saving machines, you can make
farming a pleasure snd a pastime, instead
of the fclavish work it is without. Tom
Moore, Ebensburg, is agent for the sale
of the beat mowing machines, horse rakes,
&c, in the market. See him !

OUR JOHNSTOWN LETTER.
THE 8TBIKK ACClOENT OJf THE RAILBOAD
PIC NIC QUEER FREAK OF THE LIGHTNING
RUK OFF, AC, AO.
Johnstown, July 2, 1866.
Dear Alleg: The strike among the
puddlers at "the mill continues. In con
sequence of their not working, the rail
mill is idle, and many men are thus
thrown out of employment. This causes
some dullness in business circles in our
midst. The same good order and decorum
referred to in my last continue among the
puddlers On Sunday morning, howev
er, our "tombs" had five tenants, from
thrse of whom the snug sum ol 536.61 was
collected.
A freight train west on Wednesday
morning last ran over and instantly killed
a man named Woodford, from Clearfield
county. The accident occurred above
WTilmore. The remains of the deceased
were taken in charge by his brother, who
id an employee of the Railroad.
A pic nic was held in Morrell'a grove,
near Woodvale, on Saturday last, under
the auspices and for the benefit of the
Catholic church. It was well attended,
passed off pleasantly and quietly, and
every body seemed to enjoy himself. No
doubt a handsome sum was realized.
This reminds me that, so far, I have
learned of no steps being taken to have
a proper celebration of Independence Day
here. When the day arrives, it is possi
ble, something may develop itself to prove
that our citizens have not entirely forgot
ten the birth-day of the nation.
During the heavy hail and rain storm
of Tuesday last, the lightning played a
singular freak at tho house of Mr. Baily,
of Prospect borough. It entered the roof
of the dwelling at the cone, about a foot
from the end of the roof, and ruuning
down along the planking, shivered the
weather-boarding to splinters, tearing off,
in its course, a clothes rack which was
fastened to the wall of the bed-room.
About the middle floor, it jumped from
the plank, ran along a tin spout, and down
the conductor to a tub, sitting on a barrel,
and, after cutting one hoop from the tub,
it turned and went directly through it,
leaving a hole which might readily be
mistaken for a bullet-hole. From thi
point in some most unaccountable manner,
it jumped to the barrel immediately under
the tub, and ran down, apparently be
tween two staves, till it reached the water,
which half filled the barrel, and there it
turned directly through a heavy oak stave,
leaving a similar hole to that made in the
tub. We were unable to Irace its course
further, but feel satibfied that the tin con
ductor was the means of drawing the
lightning from the house, erst no telling
what damages might have done. We re
gard the whole matter as a most singular
freak of the fluid.
On Sunday, Charles Oswald, undertak
er, wai returning from the cemetery with
his hearse attcr having deposited the
corpse in the grave, when hi horses sud
denly took fright and ran off so furiously
as to pitch him from his seat, and ere the
mad course. of the frightened team could
bo interrupted, tho front carriage of the
hearse was smashed to splinters, leaving
the iron guard railing of tbe steps ascend
ing to Fronheiscr's hall stove to pieces by
the shock. Yours, D. D.

A Family Sewing Machine is fast gaining a
world-wide reputation. It is beyond doubt
the best and cheapest and most beautiful of
all Family Sewing Machines yet offered to the
public. No other Family Sewing Machine has
sa many useful appliances for Henimine;,
Binding. Felling, Tucking, Gathering, Gaug
ing, Braiding, Embroidering, Cording, &c. No
other Family Sewing Machine has so much
capacity for a great variety of work. It will
spw all kinds of cloth, and with all kinds of
thread. Great and recent improvements make
our Family Sewing Machine most reliable, and
most durable, and most certain in action at
all rates of speed. It makes the interlocked
Btitch, which is the best stitch known. Any
one, even of the most ordinary capacity, can
see, at a glance, how to use the letter A Fam
ily Sewing Machine. Our Family Sewing
Machines are finished in chaste and exquisite
style.
The Folding Case of the Family Machine
is a piece of cunning workmanship of the
most useful kind. It protects the machine
when not in use, and-when about to be oper
ated may be opened as a spacious and sub
stantial table to sustain the work. While
some of the Cases, made out of the choicest
woods, are finished in the simplest and
chastest manner possible, others are adorned
and embellished in the most costly and superb
manner.
It is absolutely necessary to see the Family
Machine in operation, so as to judge of its
great capacity and beauty.
It is fast becoming as popular for family
sewing as our Manufacturing machines are
for manufacturing purposes.
The Branch Offices are well supplied with
silk, twist', thread, needles, oil, &c, of the
very best quality.

DISEASES OF THE EYES.
The Systeni is a cautious and safe one has"
never been known to fail in subduing In
flammation of the Eyes, either . Acute or
Chronic will remove extraneous substances
from the eyeballs, cure granulated eyelid9f so
that the eyelashes, instead of growing like"

eventually destroying the sight, will assume
a correct position become soft and natural ;
will strengthen and restore weak eyes of long
standing till without the use of the Knife,
Lunar Caustic, Blue Stone, or any of those
severe remedies so frequently applied, to the
destruction of the eyes.
Miss LE SEUR also treats successfully
RHEUMATISM and NERVOUS DISEASES,
two of the most lingering and painful dis
eases to which mortals are subject, and from
which proceed some of the most fearful dis
eases of the eyes. But as diseases are not
cured on paper and deeds are much more
satisfactory than words, she would therefore
respectfully call the attention of an intelli
gent community to her practice, and most
cordially invite the afflicted to come and test
the effect of the treatment for themselves, as
suring those whose cases are curable that if
t?? put themselves under her treatment and
follow strictly the directions given, they will
certainly be rewarded with
HEALTH AND SIGHT.
These are facts, and facts are said to be
stubborn things.

THE GREAT INTERNAL REMEDY,
For the Speedy and Positive Cure of th
above Complaints.
Messrs. R. E. Sellers & Co: This is to
certify" that for the last sixteen years I havn
been severely afflicted with rheumatism, of
ten confined to my house, and even unable to
walk. Being in the Poetofiiee, about two
months ago, Mr. Clark observed my crippled
condition, and urped me to try a bottle cf
"Johnson's Rheumatic Compound." I fol
lowed his advice and now, by the blessing ot
God, and the use of half a bottle of your
"Compound," I am free from all symptoms
of rheumatism, and can walk without tht aid
of my staff, as well as evr.

Mr. R, E. Sellers: Your Yermiluge pos
sesses more Virtue than any I ever used. I
will state a case where I gave one vial. My
brother's child was pining and wasting to a
mere skeleton. In thirty-six hours after I
gave the. Vermifuge, the enormous quantity
of upward of six hundred worms were passed.
The child that was given up for lost, is now
as well as any in the neighborhood.
