Dear Alleghanian ; I am happy to inform you that Johnstown has acted on my sugges tion that she should increase her number of candidates for Associate Judge to some thing like the figure enjoyed by Ebens burg. I now learn that a gentleman whom 'twere William Flattery to call the Coroner of Cambria co.f residing iu Kick enapauling, (which means Johnstown,) has consented to become a candidate for that office, hot that he is ambitious of honor or emolument, but simply and only that his native place may not be outnum bered in the count of aspirants before the Convention. The names of the candi dates for Judge, so far as heard from, are as follows : II. C. Devine, Bees J. Lloyd, Dr. Storm, Capt. Murray, and Michael Ilasson, of Ebensburg, and G. W. Easly, Major Flanagan, and Coroner Flattery, of Johnstown. 'Squire M'Gough, of No. 2, ha3 come out for Register and Recorder, lie writes an excellent hand. The Chairman of the Dem. Co. Com. was down in Philadelphia last week, in consultation with the Chairman of the Dem. State Cent. Com. I understand it was decided upon between these two that the campaign here sh ould be prosecuted with equal parts of vigor, whisky, money, and "my policy." Observer. Etchings. He was cut down before the vital spark had be come extinct... .A suit, instituted some years ego by Mrs. Henderson, widow of Mr. Jos. Henderson, of Indiana, against the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, has been decided in her favor by the Supreme Coujt. It will be remembered that the nit was brought for damasres for the death of her husband, who was killed at Blairsville Intersection. She was award ed 83,500.. ..The "dry spell'' met its death on Sunday last at the hands of a rain storm, which ha3 continued to drop bles sings upon us, at intervals, ever since. Vegetation has thus been revivtd, while the tremendous fires which had thereto fore been raging in the woods were com pletely quenched Court commences next Monday. ...The Ashtola saw-mill, near Johnstown, was totally destroyed by fire not long since. Loss about 825,000.... H. A. M'Pike, Esq., has returned to Johnstown from Altoona, and has gone into the mercantile business. Married At the residence of the bride's parents, ou Wednesday, 23d inst., by Rev. David Evans, Mr. George Wil liams and Miss 3Jary Adu True, both of Ebensburg. Accompanying the foregoing announce ment came to ye printer-man a handsome present. In consideration thereof, as well in consideration of the fact that George is a good boy and has done wisely in uniting his destiny with one worthy to be his mate, we nnDgle our voice with those that shower congratulations upon the heads of the happy couple, and bespeak for them a neverending May-day of pleasure and prosperity through life. Cresson. The station-house at Cres son has lately been repainted and renova ted, and, generally, put in proper condi tion for the summer campaign. It is be yond controversy the neatest and most comfortable building of the kind along the whole line of the Penna. Railroad, while the agent, Mr. R. II. Browne, is the cleverest of all railroad officials. To wait for a train behind time has ever been con sidered tho acme of human discomfort; but to so wait at Cresson, where each and every surrounding conspires to make the hours pass unheeded, is a pleasure rather than a pain. Ice Cream. Harry Devine has opened an ice cream saloon at bis residence, one door west of Blair's Hotel. The saloon is fitted up in fine stylo, with a room for ladies and attendants, and one for gentle men. The cream served up is the per fection of that warm weather luxury. We speak by the book, for we tried it, and know. We advise our readers to drop in on him some of these warm evenings, and sample a "saucer" or two. They will find it not hard to take. Fit Appointment. It gives us pleas ure to announce that our fellow-townsman, A. C. Mullin, Esc., has been appointed Chief Clerk of the State Department at Ilarrisburg. He has assumed the duties of the office. We congratulate our friend Aleck that he has been favored with this appointment, while at the same time we congratulate the State Department that it has secured the services of so gentleman ly and efficient an official as he. Miss LAURA LE SUER, whose 6uc cessfnl practice has been well known in Pittsburg and vicinity for the last seven years, has flow.taken rooms at the residence of Mrs. Stahl, High st., Ebensburg, Cambria county, Pa., where she proposes spending' the summer for the purpose of treating DISEASES OF THE EYES. The System is a cautious and safe one has never been known to fail in subduing In flammation of the Ejes, either Acute or Chronic will remove extraneous substances from the eyeballs, cure granulated eyelids, 60 that the eyelashes, instead of growing like bristles down upon the eyeballs and thereby eventually destroying the sight, will assume a correct position become soft and natural ; will strengthen and restore weak eyes of long standing all without the use of the Knife, Lunar Caustic, Blue Stone, or any of those severe remedies so frequently applied, to the destruction of the eyes. Miss LE SEUR also treats successfully RHEUMATISM and NERVOUS DISEASES, two of the most lingering and painful dis eases to which mortals are subject, and from which proceed some of the most fearful dis eases of the eyes. But as diseases are not cured on paper and deeds are much more satisfactory than words, she would therefore respectfully call the attention of an intelli gent community to her practice, and most cordially invite the afflicted to come and test the effjact of the treatment for themselves, as suring those whose cases are curable that if they put themselves under her treatment and follow strictly the directions given, they will certainly be rewarded with HEALTH AND SIGHT. These are facts', and fact3 are said to be stubborn things. REFERENCES Z Rev. A. Baker, Pastor M. E. Church, Eb ensburg, Pa. Rev. E. B. Snyder, Pastor Christ's True Cbiirch, Pittsburg. Kev: J. A.
