Within that period there have died, Chas.
II. Heycr, Edward Hutchinson, Charles
D. Murray, James C. Noon, (killed at

Judge Canan died in 1863, aged over 70

number of deaths and removals, Cambria

Johnstown, May 14, 1866.
Dear Atteg.: On Sunday morning last,
the body of an old man named Francis
Gallagher was found at the river's edge,
immediately opposite the high stack or
chimney of the rolling mill. He had ev
idently been drowned, as one-half his
body, including his head, was in the wa
ter, which was about fourteen inches deep.
On inquiry, we learned the following
particulars : The deceased, who was 60
or 70 years old, lived with his daughter,
who was married, in that part of Mill
ville known as Minersville. On Saturday
afternoon, as was his wont, he camo to
town to buy some marketing, and as we
learn from a friend who escorted him part
of the way home, drank pretty freely du
ring the evening. He started home about
half-past seven o clock, lie had some
fresh fish with him, and it is supposed
that, falling down and dragging them in
the dust, he went to the river to wash
them, when he toppled over head-first into
the water and perished. A melancholy
fact connected with the sad affair is that
the
daughter,
becoming alarmed at the
protracted absence of her father, made
search for him and was the first to dis
cover his lifeless remains. An inquest
was held, and a verdict rendered in- accor
dance with these facts.
The excavation is completed and the
stone work in progress for the new Com
pany stores, immediately below the present
buildings occupied for that purpose by the
Company. The new structures will be of
brick, and will be the largest and hand
somest ia town.
The railroad from the rolling mill by
way of the woolen factory to Conemaugh
is nearly completed. It is characteristic
of the advancement of the age that the
route traversed, over which the iron
horse now hourly rushes, was a few years
ago the site of the canal, with its locks,
and dams, and fleet of ark-like packet
boats.
Small-pox has again broken out here,
though I know as yet of only one family
afflicted by the dreadful disease. The
police promptly closed up the place of
business of this family.
The usual number of "cases" were be
fore our chief magistrate for arbitration
during the week, and the borough was the
recipient of about the usual amount ot
revenue arising from fines, &c. D. d. y.

The Political Situation. Dear
Alleghanian: Several new candidates for
political honors at the approaching Dem.
Co. Convention have loomed into view
since my last. Capt. James Murray, of
Ebensburg, pignifies his entire willingness
to accept the nomination for Associate
Judge and to serve in that capacity if
elected. D. T. Storm, of Ebensburg, has
also become an aspirant for the same of
fice. In this connection, it may not be
amiss to mention that Michael Ha3son, of
Ebensburg, purposes dissolving partner
ship with the law and politicSjand so will
hardly consent to allow his name go be
fore the Convention in connection with
the nomination for Ass. Judge. I have
not heard, as yet, that Maj. James Potts,
of Johnstown, is a New County candidate
for the Legislature. Observer.

JOHNSON'S

POUND I
No medicine for the cure of Rhesmaristi
has ever attained to such a hieh dema tt
favor and universality as
JOHNSON'S RHEUMATIC COMPOUND.
Although but one year before the public.
this medicine has justly gained an unbounded
popularity. When the originator first intro-
dncea it, he was convinced of its efficacy, but
he httle supposed it waa destined to prove
such an inestimable blessing to the afflicted.
But "true merit' chnnot be SHcnressed.
The attestation of hnndreds wbo have been
cured by its use, must prove the truth of the
assertion,
"THAT IT IS A RADICAL CTTRATITE'
FOR
INFLAMMATORY AND ACUTE RHETTMa.
TISM, GOUT, NEURALGIA, AND
KINDRED DISEASES.
We recommend it with confidence as
TIIE GREAT IXTERKAL REMEDY,
For the Speedy and Posi tiv Cuta nf t Vi

of rheumatism, and can walk without the aid
of my staff, as well as evr.

is the Proof.
Licking Station, Ky., Dec. 14, 1845.
Mb. R. E. Sellers: Your Vermifuge pos
sesses more virtue than any I ever used. I
will state a case where I gave one vial. My
brother's child was pining tind wasting to
mere skeleton. In thirty-six hours after I
gave the Vermifuge, the enormous quantity
of upward of six hundred worms were passed.
The child that was given up for lost, is now
as well as any in the neighborhood.
