Origin of the Term, "Fenian."
The term Fenian is derived from the Gae
lic word Fiann. In the antiquated Gaelic
it is written Fiand. It was a name given
to an order or class of professional sol
diers among the Pagan Irish., long before
the Chistian era. Iu ordinary times the
Fiiicn consisted of three legions; in each
legion were 3,000 men, but in war there
were usually seven legions.
