A HOMANCE OP TIIE Kail- A pretty mile Dit oi romance developed itsolt id one of the State street cars of Chicago, a few days ago. Among the passengers was a pale, quiet little woman, plaiuly dressed, and very pretty withal. Present ly a one legged soldier labored into the car on his crutches'. The seats were crowded, and the soldier had to stand.- The young woman got up, pulled the blue sleeve and pointed to the seat she had va cated, lor the first, as ho returned, she bad a lull view of his face, and neither of them paid any more attention to the emp ty seat. They stared at one iKiother a minute, and then, in spite of the awkward motion of the car, embraced and kissed each other with hysterical fervor. At first the passengers were somewhat aston ished at so public a demonstration ; but all of them soon joined in congratulating the delighted couple upon learning that the two persons thus suddenly brought to gether were man and wife, long separated by the vicissitudes of war. The soldier had been desperately wounded in Tennes see and taken prisoner. lie was supposed to have been killed, and before ho was re stored to freedom and able to write, his wifo or widow, as she supposed herself, removed to Chicago, and so his letters never reached her. The poor fellow, as soon as he could travel, set oat for home, with a desponding heart, to learn why his letters had never been answered. lie' reached Chicago on Friday, on his way thither, when the generous impulse of a kind little woman to a maimed soldier, brought her back a loving husband, and threw him into the open arms of a wife who had long mourned him as among that innumerable host who have lain down their lives for the salvation of their country. "Your Ticket, Sir I" On one of the northern railroads there is a conductor named S , a very clever, sociable, gen tlemanly fellow, and a great favorite of the company with which ho is connected as well as with the traveling public in general fond of a joke, quick at repar tee, and faithful in tho discharge of his duties. One day during the past year, as hia train, well filled with passengers, was crossing a bridge over a wide stream some seven or eight feet deep, the bridge broke down, precipitating the passenger cars into the stream. As the passengers emerged from the wreck, they were borne away by the force of the current. S succeeded in catching hold of some bush es that grew near the stream, to which he held for dear life. A passenger, less for tunate, came rushing by. S extend ed his hand, saying -'Your ticket, sir; give me your ticket The effect of such an exceedingly dry joke in the midst of eo much moisture may be imagined. Washington's Will. A valuable and interesting document was delivered a few days since to the clerk of tho Court of Fairfax countj, Va. This document was the original "last will and testament' of General George Washington, which had been for some time preserved in the Vir ginia State Library, and was saved from the clutches of the army of curiosity hun ters who pillaged the building after the taking of Richmond. The instrument is in tho clear, legible handwriting of the General, whose precision and accuracy are evinced by his signature being attached to every page and the freedom from mistakes. Every t is crossed, every i dotted, and the marks of the punctuality and thoughtful ness which contributed so greatly to his success in every department of life, are visible in every lino. He Had Him. The following anec dote is told by the Louisville Journal of Tom Marshall : "A few years since, the great Kentucky orator was delivering an address before a large audience in Buffa lo, when some one in the hall every few moments would shout 'louder ! louder !' Tom fctood this for a while, but at last, turning gravely to the presiding officer, he said: 'Mr. Chairman, at the day when the angel shall, with his golden trumpet, proclaim that time shall be no more, I doubt not, sir, that there will be in that vast crowd, as now, some drunken fool from Buffalo shouting louder! louder!' The house roared, Tom went on with his speech, but there were no more cries i f 'louder ! " OB W011K OF ALL KINDS KEATLV AND EXPEDITIOUSLY EXECUTED AT TBI "ALLEG HANI AN" OFFICE, ANIC ARRANGEMENTS!
