(Jampbell and Lieut-Col. John P. Linton,
the rifl candidates for Surveyor General,
txith reside in Johnstown, both belonged
to the 9ame regiment in the service, and
tooth were unsuccessful candidates before
their respective district conferences for
the nomination for State Senator. We
doubt whether two candidates for a State
office were ever selected under similar
circumstances... We notice that the far
tiers here and there throughout the coun
try are yet engtf&ed in harvesting their
hay. A large quantity of this article was
destroyed by the heavy find long-continued
rains of the strmmfr, but the yield is still
very large... .A camp-meeting for thU
district of the M. E. Church was held
near Armagh, Indiana county, commen
cing on Thursday last The attendance
was very large, and on Sunday not less
than two thousaud persons could have
been present.... lion. Kennedy L. Blood,
the Democratic candidate for Senator for
(his district, was in town on Monday,
scraping up acquaintance with his constit
uents, lie appears to b6 a gentleman,
und promises that the campaign on his
part shall be conducted fairly and hon
orably. Mr. B. was Senator from the
Jefferson, Forest and Elk district in years
gone by, and be dog is no new hand at
(he bellows political. Hence also the
"Hon." to his name..The editor of the
Huntingdon Journal & American has has
tened to acknowledge to us that he is a
lfool." It was unnecessary. Self-evident
things need neither demonstration
nor acknowledgement. From certain ear
marts pince discovered, we would infer he
is also an ass.. ..Rend the -excellent bio
graphical sketch of our candidate for Sur
veyor General, Col. Jacob M. Campbell,
on the opposite page of this paper.... The
Fair for the benefit of the Catholic church
cf this place, after a oontinuan-ce of one
week, came to a close on Saturdny night.
It was very liberally patronized, and must
have realized a laTge 6um for its mana
gers. -Wo understand that the Fair will
reopen oa Monday next, to continue open
throughout the week.. ..An accommoda

A Summer Hotel. We. understand
that a company of capitalists from abroad
have it in contemplation to purchase a
piece of ground in this vicinity, with a
view to erect thereon a first-cJass summer
hotel. It is also understood that the grove
of Stephen Lloyd, Esq., a short distance
west of town, is the spot selected for the
purchase. We are 6ure a summer hotel
here would pay. Our air, and water,' and
scenery are unrivalled, and since Cres
son and Bedford hive achieved a name,
Ebensburg could not fail to become fa
mous. In our timo we have visited not
a few of the popular watering-places, and
declare it as our conviction that in all the
essential elements sought at a summer re-
sort, Ebensburg is behind none of them, j
