An I n t f.r esti n f Incident. The fol
lowing incident is related by tlic Washing
ton correspondent of the Cincinnati
Commercial : While a number of geut!e
inca were discussing the merits and
demerits of Mr. Lincoln pnncipally the
latter, though at a dinner table; ike oth-r
day, one of thera spoke about as follows,
in reply to some pretty severe reflections
on Ilis'Escellency : '-(Jectlomen, you may
tnlk as you plcaie about old Abe' capaci
ty; 1 don't believe him t be, the ablest
statesman in America by any means, and
I voted against him on boih occasions "of
liia candidacy. Eut I happened to ?e?,or
rather to hear, Eometbinjr the other day
that convinced me that, however deficient
the old man may be in the head, he is all
right in the heart. I vr as up at the White
House, having called to see the i 'resident
on business. I wus shown into the cilice
of his private secretary, and told that 31 r.
Lincoln was busy jut then, but yrouM bs
disengaged in a short time. While I was
waiting I heard a very earnest prayer
being uttered in a loud female voice, in
the room that adjoined that in which I
was. I inquired what it meant, aud I was
told that an old Quaker lady, a frieud of
the President, had culled thaUiftcmoon
ncd taken tea at the White House, and
that she was then prayir g with Mr. Lin
coln. After the lapse of a few minutes
!he prayer ceased, and 31 r. Lincoln, ac
companied by a Quakeress not less than
eighty years old, entered the room I was
sitting in. I made up my mind then that
Mr. Lincoln was not a bad man, and 1
dor.'t think it will be easy to cttace the
impression that the scene I witnessed, and
the voiceI heard, made on my anna,
a iiood artist had been in my place,
If
I
think he could have found the materia
1
for a painting that would have immortal
ued him, that of Mr. Lincoln and the
old Quakeress kneeling together in prayer."

Description of our Savior. The
following description of our Savior was
written by l'ublius Ceutullus, Governor of
J udca, to the Senate o' Home, in the reign
of Emperor Augustus Givsar:
Conscript Fathers : There appeared in
these oar days a man named Jesus Christ,
who 13 yet living among us, and of the
Gentiles is accepted a3 a prophet of great
truth ; but his own disciples call him the
Son of God. lie hath raised the dead
and cured all manner of diseases. He is
a man of stature, tall and comely, with a
very ruddy countenance, such as the be
holder may love and fear. His hair is the
color of the filbert when fully iipe, plain
to the cars, whence downward it is most
ornate in color, curling and waving nbout
his shoulders; in the middle of his head
is a scam of partition of long hair, after
the manner of the Nazarites. His forehead
is plain and delicate, his face without spot
or wrinkle, beautiful, with comely red
his nose and mouth are exactly formed
beard the color of his hair, and thick, not
of any great hight, but forked. In re
proving, he is terrible; in admonishing,
courteous; iu speaking, very modest and
wise ; in proportion of body, well shaped.
A man, for his surpassing beauty, excell
ing the children ot men.
A Fast Age. The Erio Elatch has
the following examples of the progressive
spirit of the age :
"A man residing in Spring tp., Erie
county, buried his second wife on Tuesday,
November 1, 1SGI, ?ud on the 12th, elev
en days afier, married again. His first
wile died about a year ago, and he was
then five weeks in finding a second. lut
the third he inakc.3 better time on, having
had experience, and suits himself iu eleven
days.
"A case which occurred in Bryuen, New
York, however, leaves the Erie, Pa., case
tar behind for enterprise. A mau in that
town had the misfortune to lose Iris wife
on Sunday ; on Monday he married his
servant girl ; on Tuesday they attended
the funeral of the deceased together, the
rtev7 vrife wearing the old one's clothes,
and cn Wednesday the bride gave birth to
a daughter. This ended the programme
for the time."
CSIt is not at all strange that the fuct
of Gen. ( J rant having originally been a
printer, should only now be made known.
Printers arc generally good men, and iu
all great movements and revolutions, are
always most prominent. Sixteen years
ago the now Litu?cnaLt General of fhc
Armies of the United Stares was totting
typo in an Ohio printing otiice.
