hackman who was engaged to convoy two
Englishmen about the environs of Boston,
including, of course, Bunker Hill- After
going up and inspecting the monument,
the Englishmen returned to the hack,
where the driver was quietly waiting for
them. "I say, driver," say3 one of them,
"this is the place where we Englishmen
gave ycu Yankees a thrashing about
eighty years since." "Well," says the
driver, "don't know as lever heard tell
about that j but who owus the land now?"

Messrs. Evaxsand Watson : Gentlemen
The small size No. 1 Salamander safe which
purchased from your agent, Mr. Adam R-
Ba:r, in Lancaster City, on July 20th, 1858,
ha3 been subjected to a very severe test,
which it withstood in a most satisfactory
manner. This Safe, containing all my books .
together with valuable papers belonging to
myself and some to my neignbors and friends
i , n rr, . H'l. v,ff
anu represeiing a vaiuc oi over awcuiv auus
and Dollars, ($20,000) was in my Mi'll which
was destr03-ed on the night of the 27th of Ju
ly, 1SG0, and passed thtough the fiery ordeal
unscathed, lhe bale was ontue second u-.or
and fell to the basement ci the Mill, and wa3
subjected for six hours to an intense neai
among the ruuis, which was greatly increasea
by the combustion of a large quantity or grain
confined within the brick walls. Alter tne
fire the safe was opened and the bocks ana
papers taken out in a state of perfect preser
vation, the paper not even being discolored
This fact was, however, to many bystanders
a better recommendation of j-our Sares than
could be expressed in any other words from
me. Yours Respectfully,
sel3 SAMUEL RANCK.
