Josli BUlios3 esplainetb drafting,
as follows : .
WidJcr wimmin; an their only sun, is
xmpL pravidcd the wi d Jer's. husband has
slrudy served 2 years in the war, and ia
tsrilliug to go again j 1 believe the supreme
court as decided this thing forever
constitutional.
Once more; If a man should run awa
with hu draft, ho probably wouldn't ever
be allowed to stand the draft again; this
loots sevear at fust sight, but the more you
look at i, the more you can see the wisdom
into it
Once merely; Xmpts aro thos who have
been dralted into the stait prizzen lor try
ing. to get an honist living, by subportin
2 wives at oast ;. also, all them people who
are crazee aud unsound on the goose; also
all nusepaper correspondents and fools ip
general.
Once merely again ; No substitute will
be akscpted that is less than three, or
more than ten feet high, ho must not be
afraid ol the itch nor the rebels, lie must
know how to chew tobacker and drink
por- whiskee, moral character aint re
quired, a3 the government iurnishes that
and rations. .
Conclusively; do person can be drafted
but twice in two different p!ace3 without
lus consent, but all men ha3 a right to bo
drafted at least onst, i dont think even a
writ of habeas courpus could deprive a man
of thi3 last blessed privilege,
i
XS?" Those who visit the sick soldiers
and do good in the hospitals, occasionally
get a gleam of fun among all the sad
scenes, for any wag who ha3 been to the
war seldom loses his humor, though he
may have lost all else save that and honor.
"Witness a sketch from life : C ,
good soul, after taking all the little com
forts he could afTord to give to the wound
ed soldiers, went into the hospitals for the
fortieth time the other day, with his mite
consisting of several papers of cut chewing
tobacco solace for the wounded as he
called it. lie came to one bed, whero a
poor fellow lay cheerfully humming a tune,
and studying out faee3 on the papered
wall. "Gotafever?" asked C . "No,"
answered the soldier. "Got a cold?"
"Yes, cold lead." '-Where V "Well, to
tell you the truth, it's pretty well scatter
ed. First, there's a bullet in my right
C"- hit the bone that fell out. And I
tell you what, friend, With all this lead m
me,l feel, sincerely speaking, a little heavy
all over." "
The "local" column of the Rich
mond Examiner furnishes the following
facetious item : For the first time in
our varied experience, we saw a barrel of
flour hauled up Governor atreet in a
hearse! The public stared, but the dri
ver drove on. "When .we came to recol
lect that flour was five and sis hundred
dollars per barrel, and that the struggle
for bread was one of life and death, we
better appreciated the connection between
the hearse and the barrel ot flour.
$, A little urchic, begging in the
city the other day, was asked by a lady
who had filled his basket, if his parents
were living.
"Only dad, marm," said the boy. .
' "Then you have enough iu your basket
now to feed the famly for some time,"
Eaid the lady.
"Oh, no, I haven't neither," said the
lad, "for dad and me keeps boarders ; he
docs the housework and I does the mar
keting . -
"Going, going, just a going !" wa3
cried out by an auctioneer.
"Where are you going V asked a rjasser
by.
"Well," replied the knight of the ham
mer, "I am going up to the Zoological
Gardens, to tell the managers that one of
their baboons is loose."
tSB A Providence newsboy the other
day was yelling out : "Washington 'tirely
Grounded !" "What," said a geutleman,
"is Washington surrounded by t" "Forts,"
answered the youth, as he dashed away.
KfT A crusty old bachelor says, that
Adam's wife was called Eve, because
when she appeared, man's day of happi
ness was drawing to a close.
