Cresson. The celebrated summer re
sort, the "Mountain House," at Cresson,
tflis county, has been opened for the re
ception of visitors, some fifty of whom
lave already takec up their abode there, j
If the sweltering-hoc weather of the nast
week continues for another week or two,
it were safe to infer this number will be
speedily augmented until every available
cook and cranny about .the premises is
fully tenanted. Although the "House"
itself is a most epacious one, and notwith
standing the fact that perhaps a dozen
oullyinsr "cottage houses" ar roninrispd
in the accommodations afforded visitors,

lor admission. To remedy this, and alfard
room for all who may come, a very large
Edition is to be built to the hotel during
the present summer.

Etchings; About 300,000 were re
alized to the benefit of our sick and woun
ded soldiers by the late Pittsburg Sanitary
Fair. Thi3 amount would doubtless have
been increased to a half million had it
not been for the persistent opposition of
the J ohnstown Democrat to the enterprise
and its charitable aims and objects !... The
new station house at Cresson, P. Ml., is
rapidly approaching completion. When
finished, it will be one of the neatest and
most commodious buildings of the kind
along the entire routed. Among the Union
prisoners of war who. have Deen , barba
rously placed under the fire of our gun
boats at Charleston by the rebels, is Col.
Dick White, 55th Pa. Vols., formerly of
this county.... Mr. James G. Ilumes, who

of Co. G, 145th Pa. Vols., died in hospi
tal at Alexandria Ya., one day la3t week,
from the effects of a wound ' received in

The deceased was
about 23 years of ae. "Ho was born and
raised here, and leaves a mother and sev-
cral sisters in our midst to mourn hs
irreparable loss. Of a kind and obliging
dispositipn, he was much beloved by his
associates, u e knew him well knew

Man Kit.led. On Friday evening
last, a man named Georzo Atti?: who was
watchman on the Penna. Kailroad between
Cresson and Gallitzin", this countv came
to his death under the following circum-
"stances : He was making his usual round

stepped to the opposite track to' avoid it,
when a down-train, of the proximity of
which he was not aware, ran over him,
killing him instantly. He was aged about

Arm GUI' Orr. Robert George, a ton
of F. M. GeorsjeJ of Hemlock, this coun
ty, aged about 17 years, had hi3 arm
completely severed from his body, a few
days since, through its coming in contact
with a circularsaw in a steam-mill in that
neighborhood. " The mutilated stump was
re-amputated by the surgeon, and we un
derstand the sufferer is doing well as could
be expected under the circumstances.

amendments be proposed to the Constitution
of the Commonwealth, in accordance with the
provisions of the tenth article thereof:
There shall be an additional section to the
third article of the Constitution, to be desig
