A Good Stoky. -During Robert Hel ler's late brilliant engagement in Pittsburg, the: fame anu excellence of his entertain ments attracted all classes of people the musical and refined, the, millionaire and merchant prince, the, mechanic and the artizan jin fact every class of society found its representatives within the theatre each night of his performance. - One evening a genuine specimen of the genus verdant, with his girl on his arm, presented himself at the box office and demanded, "What's the tax to the show?" . -"Fifty rent?," politely answered the ticket seller. t "Wei! I uess I won't hack out aoyiiow lierp'ji vonr tin." Receiving his tickets, greeny entered, dracginir the young lady by the hand. Thispeeuliarity, and the oddity of their " . t . I 1 J - 1 1 1 dress, soon made tnem me ODserveu oi an observers. Heller shortly alter commeneea his illusions, which were wondered at with eyes and mouth wide open by our rustic Ttair- he occasionally ejaculating in pretty lnnil tmips. " 1 huuaer. wunu sue wuum i-xelaim. "Mercy, ain't it queer:' Feat after feat was presented, and received with the plaudits of the audience, until the introduction ol the "A?nai lien, a irlass hell suspended by a simple cord from the centre of the ceiling, and used in answering questions. After the usual performance with it, the question was usked : "Is anybody in the house in love, who wishes to get married V ."Yes." "Pttitf tell what part of the house they arc in The bell immediately designated our rustics, who sat looking atone another, as a pair of doves, apparently oblivious, in their own happiness, to all surroundings. "Are they engaged V "No." "Will thev ever De V "Yes." "When will it take place V "Tc night' Durlnor these nuestions and answers our rustic had been gradually himself out like a jack-knife, opening and now attained his full attitude; when pulling up his shirt collar, and stirring up his crop of flax colored hair, he exclaimed, breathless with joy and excitemeut : "Say, say, you mister ! jest ax that thing if Nancy Jaue and me is to be spliced together, and if he says yes, I'll give yoa the best horse in Butler county, ani call our first boy after you." Shouts, yell3 and peals of laughter followed this announcement, and Nancy Jane, suffused with blushes, pulled his coat tail, and begged him in her most entreating manner : "Now, do, Ike, please eit down, won't you. now Ike, however, too much elated with his success, and unminaiui or aw arouuu, stretched his body as far as possible over the balustrade, and in a voice audible in every corner of the house, cried out : . I inrf rnt ir. miSLer. uu koi nt-i maw Tilnir tn rjiv vcs. und doir uiv cats and buttons if I don't call all my babies, boys and girls, lifter you, and lick anybody that siys grass to you, to boot. You cau readily imagine the entertain ment was short that night, and when oyer, the happy couple were made still happier, a? the minister made tnem one ior me, in tbe presence of Robert Heller. ,Tiie Price of Drinks. An exchange, after announcing the increase ip the price of drinks, says : This will be sad news to tippler3 and topers, but "the rest of man kind" will rather rejoice at it. It will be a serious tax on the genteel drinker, who always calls for the best and never forgets to invite "his friends" who may be with or about him. The tippler, too, who must have his "nips" regularly, with or without the company ot his friends, will find this the worst tax which he ha3 yetbeen called upon to pay. And what will become of the toper that wretched specimen of humanity who lias passed from the class of tipplers into the low grade of a sot ? The genteel drinker will have to make his visits less frequent, and he will have to be more exclusive in the selection of his friends. When he enters a bar room, he will not cast his eyes about to find all the familiar faces, but he will keep his eyes on the bar tender and give spongers'-' the go-by. As to the tippler, he will have .o do most of his drinking alone, and in taking his glass will fill -it a "finger" or two higher than usual. In deed, the poorer class of tipplers and to pers will have toquif the taverns altogether, and betake themselves to the. bottle. They must have it and in sufficient quantify, too and if they cannot afford to get it at ten cents a guzzle, then they will patronize the wholesale dealer, and bring into vogue the old flask and jug. Then vc may R cxneet to see them not only with "bricks in their hats," but with flasks in their pockets.
