The waiter threw a glance at the fcl-

. of his wallet, as he was going "through the
bill of fare." It was all served ou him

came the wines, and the waiter brought
;m a little of "the heavy," when the cus
tomer inquired the price, and was answer
ed "Two dollars, sir."
. "What ! tew what 1 well what in time
do you charge for what I've eat dow 7"
asked the green customer. .
"I'll bring your bill, sir, in a moment,"
aid the waiter.
The bill was presented two dollars
and sixty-two cents. .
"Two dollars and sixty-tew cents for a
dinner I This is Oibbs' Hotel, isn't

'No it Is Parker's."
"Yew don't Bay k! why I seed a kard
in the railroad saying that yew oould get
a dinner at Oibb's lbrninepeDce, and that's
all the money I've got ; so you'll haveew
take that for my dinner."
. "Oh, that is more than we ask," iid
Parker as he approached his customer,
we only carge a fourpenca for a dinner;
and rather than lose your custom, you
au take a bottle of wine for the other
iourpencer"
, "Til give you three cents for the wine,"
aaid Jonathan.
"Pone' said Parker.
Out came the ninepence, and Parker
gave back the three cents.
"Now you'd crter .throw in a 'cigar,
arter I've bought a dinner and a bottle of
wine of yc," said the greenhorn.
, : 'Oh, yes, take two ouly you will have
to feinoko in, the street, as we don't allow
cioking in the dining hall."
"Oh, martin ! I've got better manners
than to smoke here while people are eat
ing," said the fellow as he walked out.

Mr Pilkinson, a small farmer in Pecn
