SrRlN'O, no! March which caiiic in
like a lion, went out as a Iamb calmly,
peacefully, and during an unsuccessful
effort at a snow shower. By the vray, the
Blei.zhing hereabouts four days ego was
reasonably good: mud at present forms
the basis of our calculations to the depth
of say half a foot. And cow, April the
month when the violets begin to peep
forth, and .song-birds to awake the echoes
of the hitherto deserted forests April ia

With us, occasionally, Spring settles down
"for good" about the first of April, but
oftcner that event occurs in Ma' and

liakt winter w.e will havs a late spring."
The past winter wa certain' light, and
yon may form yoiir own conclusions. ' A 11
rules, however, excepting the golden rule,
arc liable to miscarry why not this and
now? "Look before you leap" "is a good
motto; we look to spring. ' ""'Tis a'u.oath

creeps slowly 'up this way," but when it

spring it on the top of the Allegheny
Mountains? There, is room here for
rhapsody, but nothing short of letters of
olJ would do justice to the subject, and
there is Clty-something-and-a half pfemi

To the Editor .of The Alleghaniam
Why is it, that the Democrat d- Sentinel is
more willing to serve the devil than its coun
try ? In No. 14, it carried a letter to his Sa
taniIajesty from his agent on Earth.. Said
agent must be a rebel Democrat, and should
be sent South to his. friend? .forthwith. The
editor of the Pern. Sint. promised some
time ago to insert in its columns, for the ben
efit of the Pennsylvania Democracy, a letter
from the Indiana soldicTS, seventy thousand
iu number, signed by their officers, to the
Democracy of their native State. This letter
was handed him on the 3d iust , but up to the
present "date it has not made its appearance.
Why is this ? Is the editor aforesaid like his
master a deeriver and liar? Appearances
would eo indicate, for iu No. 13 of his paper,
he say? the object of the Conscription Aci is
to "enroll all able-bodied Democrat? . .
