Death of the Oldest Inhabitant.
The last will ami testament of Mrs.
Elizabeth Myers, late of Antia township,
Ulair "county, was admitted to probate re
cently. The deceased was in many
Tespect3 a remarkable woman. She was
born in the year 1754, consequently, she
"was. 109. years old when ehe died. To re
alize the 'changes that occurred in her
long and eventful life, we have only to
reflect that at the time. qjf her birth,
Washington was beleagered by the French
at Fort Necessity j Pittsburg was then a
small fort in possession of the Freuch j
that Braddock was defeated next year;
that she was 21 years old at the Declara
tion of Independence, and was 58 at the
rAlc5ncr 'nnt of the war of 1S12! She
lived before steamboats were iuyented,

eaddest of all, she lived to see traitors

which "her husband fought and bled to
establi&h. A relic of the past, she died
respected by all. .
Good Shooting. The following dia
logue on " sharp-shooting". is reported to
have recently taken place betweeu a rebel
and a federal picket ;
liebel I say, can you fellows shoot?
Federal Wall, I reckon we can, some.
Rebel Down in "Mississippi, we cau

three hundred yard.
Federal Oh, that ain't nothin' tew the

to a military company there, a hundred
men in the compauy, and we went out for
Dractice every week. I he lapt n draws

rolling down hill, and each man takes
his shot at the bungb-oje as it turns up. It

member who missed it is expelled.
belonged to the company ten years, and
there aiu t been nobody expelled yet.
I About to the Knks. One of our dry
good firms jeeently procured the services
ef a cleik who was a green hand at the
business. A young lady entered the store
one day lately to make some purchases,
and the other clerks being engaged with
customers, the "young 'un" proceed
ed to wait on the young lady. . Among
ether things, she inquired for ladies' hose.
. The boy found the desired articles, and
presented them for the. lady's inspection,
i. "How high do they come ':' she inquired
after a short examination.
The . boy looked somewhat confused,
hesitated, but at length stemuiered out,
"""Well I don't know, but I suppose they
will come about to the knees."
,-The young lady did not trade with that
e'erk any more. - -
c A Gintlemen. After the battle of
Perryville, when a squad of soldiers were
earing for the dead and wounded, they
tame upon the body of a man, apparently
a rebel, about which there was not the
least signot recognition.
"Do you Enow him?"' asked half a doz
en of voices, as a member of the 10th -Ohio
arose from searching the body.
"Know him '(" replied the Emeralder,
"I tell yez, boys: he's a gint'.euian at all
events, tbr there'sa bottl-i in his packet !"
; sa.An imaginative Irishman
rives
utterance to this lamentation : "1 returned
to the halls cf my fathers by night, and I
fouud them in ruins ! 1 cried aloud,
My fathers, where are they?' and an
echo responded, 'Is that you, Patrick
