Witmer8 Bridge,
Lancaster Tp. July 30. 1SG0.
Messus. Evaxs and Watsox : Gentlemen-
The small size No. 1 Salamander safe which
I j urchastd from your.agent, Mr. Adam R.
Ba-r, in Lancaster City, on July 20th, 1858,
has been subjected to a very severe test,
which it withstood in a most satisfactory
manner. Thi3 Safe, containing all my books
together with Ta'cn.ble papers belonging to
myself and some to my neighbors and friends,
and represetlag a valae of over Twenty Thous
and Dollars, (S20.000) was in my Mill which
was destroyed on the night of the 27th of Ju
ly, 1S30, and passed through the fiery ordeal
unscathed. The Safe wasonthe second floor
and fell to the Basement of the Mill, and was
suujected for six hours to an intense heat
among the rui.is, which wasgreatly increased
by the combustion of a large quantity of grain
confined within the brick walls After the
fire the safo was opened and the books and
papers taken out in a state of perfect preser
vation, the paper not even being discolored.
This fact was, however, to many In'stiinders
a better recommendation of your S;irrs than
could be expressed . in any other words from
me. , Yours Respectfully,
