A CARD.
Witmer's Bridge,
Lancaster Tp. July 30, 1860.
Messrs. Evans and Watson: Gentlemen
The small size No. 1 Salamander safe which
I purchased from your agent, Mr. Adam R.
Ba-r, in Lancaster City, on July 20th, 1858,
has been subjected to a very severe test,
which it withstood in a most satisfactory
manner. J his isate, containing an my cooks
together with va!uble papers belonging to
myself and some to my neighbors and friends,
and represeting a value of over Twenty Thous
and Dollars, ($20,000) was in my Mill which
was destroyed on the night ot the J7th ot Ju
ly, 1860, and passed through the fiery ordeal
unscathed. The Safe was on the second floor
an'd fell to the basement of the Mill, and was
subjected for six hours to an intense heat
among the runs, which was greatly increased
by the combustion of a large quantity of grain
confined within the brick walls. After the
fire the safe was opened and the books and
papers taken out in a state of perfect preser
vation, the paper not even being discolored.
This fact was, however, to many bystanders
a better recommendation of your Safes than
could be expressed in any other words from
me. Yours RespectfuIIv,
sel3 SAMUEL RANCK.
