More men are required for the suppres sion of the Rebellion. More brave hearts "and strong hands are needed. More sac Vifices of invaluable lives must be made, 'ere the foul heresy of Secession is crushed i to earth, never to rear its hideous head I aloft again. To this end, Governor Cur- tin has issued a proclamation urging the I freemen of Pennsylvania to rally to the 'ctaniard of our endangered liberties to I yield a prompt compliance to the necessa- ry demand upon their patriotism and love I tf country. Ho well and truly says : "Pennsylvania has hitherto done hep duty to the country. Her freemen are again I called on to volunteer in her defence, that the blood of her sons who have already I fallen may not have been in vain, and f that we may hand down to posterity the I blessings of Union and civil and political f i-i . i v a ax f-i iiDerty wnicn we aenvea irom our iainers. .... Our noble Commonwealth has never yet faltered, and must be firm now when Iher honor and everything that is dear is at stake." Our heroic brethren in arm3 before the I Rebel capital are looking with intense anxiety for the response of the people of the North. Upon that response the fu ture of the country depends. Reinforce ments in large numbers must be had, and soon, too, if they are .to prove effective, and the rampant treason of the Suuthern olicarchv is to be crushed out. What the response shall be whether bold, prompt, 1 and worthy of a great people whose na I tional existence is attacked by a desperate I and malignant foe, or weak, spiritless and I hesitating a few days must decide. 4 The traitors, as weil as the loyal army I which has suffered and sacrificed so much, are also anxiously awaiting the decision. I If men arc promptly furnished, and any- thing like the noble enthusiasm manifes I ted at the outset is shown, they know their doom is sealed. Their leaders have strain- !ed to the utmost their every ability and means in order to concentrate and support the immense army which bars our way to J the Btronghold of their treason. Once di.spersed and destroyed, they can never I assemble or equip another like it. Foiled Jin their grand effort to capture and destroy ithe Army of the Potomac, in which un dertaking they thought themselves almost 6ure of success by reason of their over whelming numbers, they still hope that lhc loyal Slates may prove weary of the war. and the needed reinforcemants be not ;iorthcoming with that promptness which alone can make them effectual. I As a great deal has been said about 'drafting" ia this connection, the follow ing brief letter from Mr. Diven, Member of Congress from New York, who is en gaged in raising volunteers among his Constituent?, to a gentleman engaged in 4ho same work, is apropos : "Don't say that we must resort to drafting. We have not the time to draft ! There is no doubt of the truth of this remark. If men will . tlunteer with any sort of promptitude, fltho new muster can be raised much quick er in that way than by drafting." I The wise and sagacious Secretary of ifitate, Mr. Seward, in a note urging the policy of instant enlistment of men, also cays : "All is well if we instantly show 9ur strength I i -And this is the voice that comes in i ilhundcr tones from every quarter in which i Hhe true state of affairs is known. More qaen are instantly required the Govern ment must assert its majesty or the fair jibrrc of 'Our liberties will crumble to Otter destruction, and we bo degraded in the eyes of the world for all time to come, let the nation heed its deliverance is vTrithin its own grasp ! Cambrians! a word to you. Let it never be said that ye stood back when the icelcss boon bequeathed you by your thera Liberty ! was in peril ! Let it Sever be said that ye suffered your birth Ight to slip from your grasp without a fcrrible, death-like struggle to retain it 1 Je have sent the pride and flower of your anry to do, and dare, an d- d ie, in behalf I tu Union are you now willing that all fit eacrificca am -privations shall go for naught ? That self-government shall be written down a lie and sham ? That ws as a Nation be hurled into a state of social and political degradation worse than untold miseries ? A thousand times No! Then rally! Sustain by every pulsation of your heart and every energy of your mind the efforts of our rulers to punish Treason and Traitors. Lend your strength and countenance cheerfully in this behalf, and the deadly Upas tree of dissension that has been planted in the vineyard of our National prosperity will soon be plucked up by the roots and scat tered broadcast to the winds. On our opposite page we print the Proclamation of Governor Curtin, issued on Monday, designating the number of regiments to be raised and the quotas of the several counties'. Cambria county is set down for two companies. "Delay may be fatal" will they not be forthcoming immediately ? News from the Cambria Guards, (Co. A, lltJt Penna. Reserves.") From an unofficial report of the casualties list of officers wounded and in prison, and num ber of privates killed, wounded, absent and in prison attaching to the 11 Ih Re serves subsequent to the battle of Gaines' Hil!, prepared by Adjutant Robert A. M'Coy, (of this place,) in Richmond pris on under date of July 30, and forwarded by F. R. Brunot to Pittsburg, we extract the following particulars concerning Co, A. As this company was raised princi pally in Ebensburg and vicinity, and this being the first news in any wise approxi mating to reliability we have had of it since the fight, the statement will possess a sorrowful interest to many of our read ers : Wounded, and whereabouts not known Captain Andrew Lewis, 1st. Lieutenant James C. Burke. In Richmond prison Adjutant R. A. M'Coy, formerly 1st Lieut, of Co. A. No. Prisoners Unhurt 10. No. Wounded Prisoners -1. No. Killed b. . No. Absent & Wounded 10. No. unaccounted foi 36. No. Detached, Side, etc. 23. FURTHER PARTICULARS OFFICIAL LIST OF CASUALTIES. Col. Gallagher, writing from Richmond prison under dats of July C, furnishes the Philadelphia Inquirer of Tuesday mor ning with the official list of killed and wounded of the 11th Reserves in the bat tle of Gaines' Hill. We annex so much as refers to Co. A. : Severely wounded and missing: Capt Andrew Lewis, Lieut. James C. Burke, Hilarian O'Connell, Daniel Helman, Thompson Carney, Jacob S. Boring, Geo W- Brown. Wounded: Sergeant John E. Scan- Ian, Thomas P. Dumm, Richard R. Da vis, David T. James, Thomas Williams, John M'Bride, William Wagoner. Slightly wounded : William W. Evans, John Keough. According to Col. Gallagher's report, none of the company were killed out right. In a list of Pennsylvania soldiers in Howe's House and Gaines' Hospital, near Richmond, as published in the Pittsburg Gazette, we find the following: Capt. Andrew Lewis, right leg amputated ; 1st Lieut. James C. Burke, wounded in right leg j Sergt. J. E. Scanlan, right knee and left side; David Jamjfe, shoulder and breast ; Thompson Carney, left groin. Sick or wounded at Libby's Hospital : Wm. Powell, John Baker. Henry II. Wareham, wounded and ta ken prisoner. Military. Captain John Downey, of Johnstown, who has received authority to recruit a company in this county, is ma king strenuous efforts to fill up his ranks to the required number. The company is to be armed with the best description of rifles, with sabre bayonet attached. Sixty stand of these arms were received at Johnstown last Thursday, where the re cruits are now being drilled daily. Per sons in this section of the county desiring to enlist will report themselves to Mr. Orlando Brookbank, at Davis, Jones & Co.'s store, Ebensburg, who is authorized to enrol names. Capt. James Murray, who is recruiting a company in this county for the 115th Penna. regiment, Col. Patterson, is also willing to enrol a few more men. His hcadquaiters for the present are in Eb ensburg. Harvesting has been commenced in this county, and the yield of cereals promises to be truly abundant.. The frujt crop also presents an appearance of unexampled prosperity. To the Ladies ! We have a yet heard of no steps being taken in thig sec tion toward responding favorably to the appeal in behalf of the "Pennsylvania Sol diers' Relief Association," published in these columns some weeks since. If noth ing has yet been done, wo would suggest that the initiatory steps in the matter be taken at once. It is never too late to do good, and we are confident that the thous ands of poor ick and wounded soldiers at Washington and elsewhere will need all the comforts and conveniences that can possibly be lavished upon them. Their gratitude should be your sufficient reward. Let a couple of boxes of necessaries and delicacies be made up and forwarded at once ! AUDITOR'S NOTICE.
