The small size No. 1 Salamander safe which
I i urchased from your agent. Mr. Adam R.
Ba.-r, in Lancaster City, on July 20th, 1S3",
has been subjected to a very severe trt,
which it withstood in a :uo;t satisfactory
manner. This Safe, containing all my books
together with va'u tide papers beloi.ging to
myself and some to my neighbors and friends,
and rcpres-eting a vain- of over Twenty Thous
and Dollars, (020,000) was in my Mill which
was destroyed on the night of the 27th of Ju
ly, 1S00, and passed through the iiery ordeal
unscathed. Tiie Safe was on the second iloor
and fell to the basement of the Mill, and wns
subjected for six hours to an intense heat
among the i ui.es, which was greatly increased
by the combustion of a large quantity of grain
confined within the brick wails. After the
tire the safe was opened and the books and
papers taken out in a state of perfect preser
vation, the paper not even being discolored.
This fact was, however, to many bystanders
a better recommendation of your Safes than
could be expressed in any other vords from
me. Yours Respectfully,
selS . SAMUEL RANCK.
