The Aumv Oath. The following is
the oath which all volunteers and regulars
mustered into the service of the United
States are required to take before their
final enrolment into service : "I do sol

that I will serve them honestly and faith

Rat Sruitv. A young lady of Provi
dence, in whose veracity we have no
doubt, recently saw what is related- in
connection herewith. As she sat looking
out of her window into the yard couuected
with the house, she saw an egg lying upon
the ground in the hencoop ; presently two
rats made their appearance, one of which,
lying down upon his side, gathered tke
egg within his limbs aud held it fast,
while the other rat took hiin by the "nar

the hole together, where, without 'letters
of inar-jue' the egg was speedily conlisti

A X APERIENT and stomachic prcpa-
r ration of Iron Durihed of Oxveren and
Carbon bv combustion in llvdrogtn. Sane
tioned bv the highest medical authorities,
both in Europe and the. United States, and
prescribed m their practice, i he experience
of thousands daily proves that no preparation
of Iron can be compared with it. Impurities
cf the blood, depression of vital energy, pale
and otherwise sickly complexions, indicate its
necessity in almost every conceivable case.
Innoxious in nil maladies in which it has been
tried, it has proved absolutely curative in each
of the following complaints, viz:
JJtllUly, y,rcouis JO'ccCons, Emaciation
Dijrp'i'fi'i. t'c:iffrj,i;!io'.i, JJiurrka , J)-s( nttru,

Face. cic.
In cases of General Debility, whether the
result cf acute diseases, or of the continued
diminution of nervous and muscular energy
from chronic complaints, on trial cf this re
storative has proved successful to r:ii extent
which ISO description nor written attestation
would render credible. Invalids so long bed
ridden as to have become forgotten in their
own :cigfcboihoods, have suddenly reappeared
in the busy world as if jiiat returned liom pro
tracted travel in a distant land. Seme very
signal instances td' this hind are attested cf
female suliVrers, emaciated vic tims of appa
rent marasmus, sanguineous exhaustion, crit
ical changes, and that complication of nervous
and dyspeptic aversion to air and exercise for
which the physician has r.o name.
In Xi ri'i.ux Afci'tiort of all hind and for
reasons familiar to medical men, the operation
cf this preparation of iron must necessarily be
salntarv, for, unlike the o ld oxides, it is igo-
rous'y tonic, without being exciting and over-
he ai mg ; and
in the most
gently, regularly aperient, oven
ob.t ir.ate cases cf cost: vent.-;,
without ever being a gastric purgative, or iu
l'lieting a disagreable st u;atit;ii.
It is this lattc r prq-er:y, among others, which
makes it so remarkably eii'oetaal and perma
nent a remedy f--r l'il-x, upon which it also
appears to exert a distinct end specific action,
by dispersing the local tendency which forms
them.
In Dyrjtrprlet, iniiinr.o rr.l le ass are its causes,
a single box of those Chalybeate Pills has ol
ten sufficed for the mol habitual o asos, inclu
ding the attendant coivencss.

In the local pains, loss of flesh and strength,
dcl.iiit:-tii:g cough and remittent hectic which
generally indicate Incipient Cci.tuirptlcn, this
remedy lias allayed the alarm of friends and
physician.-, in several very gratifying and in
to r e s t i n g i n ; i a i i e e s .
In Scroj'iili.Jis Tuberculosis this medicated
Iron has had far more than ihe good clfect cf
the most cautiously balanced preparations cf
iodine, without any of their well known lia
bilities. The attention of females cannot be too con
fidently invited to-thi$ reined;! and rtstorctire,
iu the oasts peculiarly all'ccting them.
In Rheiihiatisui, both chronic and inflamato
ry in the latter, however, more decidedly
it has been invariably well reported, bosh as
alleviating paiu and reducing the swellings
ami stihr.ess of the joints and muscles.
in In; r;:ti!ti:tt levers it must iu ees: arilv be
