Tlie Old I'oplar Tree.
When roses are blooming in Mr.y,
Cn tiie dark green shore of the sci,
May I meet thee. dear one. to say,
V.'eve loved by the f.'d poplar tree.
The old poplar tree vwth its. vine.-,
Irs moss and its branches so bare,
We have often met there in old timed,
Along with the brave and the fair.
The starlit sky radiant above,
A stillness is o'er hind anil set;
May I meet thee, to-nijdit, love,
'Neath the bade of the old poplar tree.
Cuom s : The old pophir tree. .e.
Our soft whispered words none .-hall hear.
And none save thy William-' shall see
The blush on thy cheek, and the tear
That falls 'nti'th the old poplar tree.

Scaklkt Efa-ku. We find tho follow
ing paragrajdi in one of our exchanges, iu
reference to the scarlet fever:
Parents should be very careful about
their children when this devouring plague
fcci.es the:u, and every inotiier should be
prepared for it with the following good
remedies : '
1st. When a child is taken with the
fever j;ive it a dose of castor oil; if the
body shows flush color, have a put of saf
fron tea made and -rive it to the child to
drink. This will drive the eruption out.
2nd. Have warm baths for the feet
keep it warm and the room under a proper
temperature.
."Jr 1. H hen the eruption is out, crease
the whole body with bacon fat, and keep
the body open. Then if the throat should
c-et sore, call for a doctor.
To this the staid old National Intelli-
gencer a Ids: '-Better be-in with the doc-

they have a cood stock of common sense.
