Missionary Meetino. On "WeJnes
xy of last week, quite a large and ap-
eciative audience assembled in the Pres
.terian church of this place, for the
urpose of holding a farewell meeting
u the occasion of the departure of the
?ev. R. J. Evans and his youthful bride,
f.r their adopted home on the coast of the
Peaceful Ocean." After the usual in-
SroJuctory services, Mr. Evans delivered
a a most impressive and eloquent man
Ver, a sermon based upon the last two
"rerses 01 me last cuapier 01 ci. jim-
. "fin ve therefore and teach all
atious," ic. To give even an imperfect
ketch of the masterly style in which he
ar.d'ed his subject, would lead us beyond
ar limits; for the present it is unneces
iry that we should say more than that
he speaker seemed t feel that his theme
xs one that deserved the attention of all ;
hile this thought gave grace to his dic-
jn and elegance to his delivery, all
Ihowing how deeply his own soul had
-cn made to feel that the work was of
ihe Lord. Rev. Mr. Powell then made
uine interesting remarks, in which he
fpoke favorably of the great cause of Mis
J'.oas, and attested the sincerity as well as
fhe capability of his young brother to
filter upon the field. Rev. Mr. Williams
ue a brief history of the origin of Mis
ias, in a neatly written article, which
;!2.ied the attention of the audience, not
by its inherent beauty, than by the
4;.j earance ol the venerable speaker. Rev.
1. Harbison addressed the Congregation,
J closed by bidding Mr. K. farewell in
(he name of all present, wishing him a
:ife journey to his new home, and God's
ies.iitig on his labors while there. Rev.
Ir. Kvans replied by thanking the audi-
pioe f.r their kindness to him, and asked
wiat their prayers might follow him whither
e weut, as without help from on High,
is labor must be in vain. The audience
ii uined much alfected during the services,
id in coming away, we could not but feel
I at '-the Lord was in his holy temple."
f e may add that the exercises were fre
quently interspersed with pieces of saorod
xsie. under the direction of our friend
ir. John Roberts, of the Presbyterian
ir, and Mr. Hugh II. Hughes, of the
e!ch Independent.

A Good Opportunity. Wo di
following from one of our exchanges. It
affords a nice chance for some of the young
men of this place to "pitch in :"
a husband wanted !
This being leap year, I hope your readers
will pardon me for this bold intrusion. As
it has become fashionable in the Eastern as
well as the Western cities for young ladies as
well as gentlemen, to make known their wants
through the columns of a public journal ; and
as this is the year wlien ladies can make fret
to do so, I take this method of seeking by this
means, a partner for life, believing it to be as
fair and honorable as by any other stratagem
I wish one that can share my tweet or my
bitters, which ever our lot may be, with cheer
fulness and a good will.
I will now give a brief description of my
self, as follows : Height five feet ; dark hair
and eyes ; and as young gentlemen say, rath
er prepossessing in appearance. I am not
what the world calls rich, but what I prize
more highly than gold a character without
a stain. Can cither play on the jiano or
washboard, and am willing to do c-itScr accor
ding to circumstances. All I ask, that he
shall bear an unimpeachable record one that
will bear strict investigation. Riches no ob
ject, if otherwise agreeable. "Sincerity" is my
motto. Address in confidence,
KATE DARSIE.

Legal Decision. The Pittsburg Jour
nal gives the following decision of the
Supreme Court in this State, in regard to
a widow's claim under tne exemption
law : "The right of a widow to retain
real or personal property of her deceased
husband's estate, to the value of three
hundred dollars, is waived entirely when
she neglects to demand au appraisement.
If au appraisement be made, and she neg
lects to retain less than the value of three
hundred dollars, she waives her claim to
all which she neglects to retain."
Fatal Accident. We are pained to
learn that a child aged about two years,
daughter of M. J. Smith, of Gallitzen, was
so severely scalded on Saturday of last
week; as to result in her death. In play
ing about a table, she accidentally upset a
bucket cl boiling water upon her head,
scalding her so severely as to result in
almost instantaneous death. The bereaved
parents have our fympathy.
C olden Marriage. On Tuesday last,
Mr. Anthony Synyder, of Carrolltown, cel
ebiated the fiftieth anniversary of his wed
ded life, by being again, after the lapse of
a half a century, united to the sharer of
his joys and sorrows. The occasion was
one of happiness and pleasure to all pres

New Goods. By reference to an ad

of purchasers. The tailoring business in
all its branches is also extensively carri

Accident. A rather singular acci
dent occurred one day last week, to our
friend, Mr. Robert Rowland,- who lives
