A Good l anurr in a. Acisrlibor
liuod. Tn looking over some recent remarks by
Hon. Z. Pratt, on taking (he chair at the
formation ot the Prattsville Farmer's
Club, we fiid the following siurge.s:ive
paragraph :
"A good farmer in a neiglihorhoxl is a
jrreat blessing; and let him ro to what
-Mill or Meeting he likes, hi.s mode of
fanning and his impvoveUieuis wiil be
adopted."
This is vey true, and it is encouraging
to every one who is trying to bring about
a bettor husbandry o.i his own farm and
among those who are, and are to be, his
neighbors and companions. Whatever
may be a limn's political opinions or his

better profits, his methods will be looked
into by those who know him, and he will
be imitated; and thus improvement will
go on.

This is the season for the thought crop.
Tho seed may be obtained from the past
year's experience of yourself and others,
and books and papers will furnish a still
wider choice. New thoughts are both
capital and tools. Tliinkuhj men romni'tjuf

accounts, anhfs far as practicable, start
square with the year. Improve the farm
on paper. Lay drains and , build walls
with pen and ink, plant fields with pencil
and ruler. Get the whole farm and its
future operations hj Iccitrt, and thus be
ready for the coming campaign. Then
enlarge good farming into good "neigh
boring." Start the farmer's club, urge
forward neighborhood improvements, bet
ter roads, superior school-houses, iiiid
whatever the public need. These labors
will fill the leisure of Winter r.lexsurably
and with profit. Am. Aj.

It is advisable not to-buy trees of more
than three or four years' growth. Trees
ten or twelve teet high may look more
promising when first set out, but those of

be far superior. The probability of loss
