Quoits. A matched game of Quoits
was pitched at Wilmore, on Saturday last,
by a somewhat celebrated pitcher of Eb-
ensburg, and a young Welchman, of
Johnstown. The match resulted i
of the Welchman. The test was to be the
best three in five. The score made was
as follows :

First game, 21 yards, 14
Second 25 yards, !
Third " 21 yards, 10
Fourth " 25 yards, 14
The purse was said to be $50 ; besides
which, numerous side bets changed hands.
We trust the Ebensburg Cricket Club,
when it enters for a match against the
"All England Eleven," will niakea better

The Fair. The Agricultural fairs
which have been held in this place, have
not been so well attendecHrom all parts of
the county as could be desired. On one
or two occasions, several of the districts
were almost wholly unrepresented. We
trust this will not be said of the coming
fair. The 3Ianagers are sparing no pains
or expense to render the most ample ac
commodations to both visitors and exhib
itors, and every locality in the county
should do its part in making the exhibi
tion a full and as varied as possible. If
our friends go into the matter with the
proper spirit, we shall have a fair this fall
which will boalike creditable to our coun
ty and our people.
Senten ced. Ou Saturday evening last,
John Orncr, Jr., George Xagle and Chas.
Weaver, who were severally convicted of
Larceny week before last, were sentenced
by the Court to undergo an imprisonment
for one year in the Western Penitentiary;
and William Xcalies, convicted of receiv
ing stolen goods, was sentenced to six
months' imprisonment in our County Jail.
For some cause which we have not learn
ed, the sentence of Floriuda Brown, also
convicted of Larceny, was deferred until
the next argument court. Orner, Xagle
and Waavor were taken by Sheriff Linton
to the Penitentiary, ou Monday last.

bills and, as a matter of course, the

Serious Accident. We are pained
to learn that Mr. Jerome Dawson, of Al
legheny township, lias lost his right hand.
On Saturday last, whilst engaged on a
saw-mill, he was about removing some
chips from a log that was being sawed,
when the circular saw caught hi.s hand
and instantly cut it off. It was thought
that amputation above the wrist would be
necessary to save his life. 31 r. Daw
son is a millwright by occupation, and is
a most estimable man. We tender him
our sympathy in this sad visitation.
The Great Show. As will be seen
by reference to our advertising columns,
we arc to have a gigantic Circus and Ma
nacrie here on the Gth of next inonth.
If we may judge from the bills, this exhi
bition will surpass anj thing of the kind
we have witnessed in this "neck of
woods" for a long time. Many persons
object to attending the Circus, but when
it contains a collection of the wonders of
the animal kingdom, everybody has a
good excuse to go, in the fact that they
desire to "see the elephant."

Ebenezer Davis, aged about 78 years.
The deceased was a native of Wales, and
had served many years in the British ar
my. His trade here was that of a weav
er, and avc have often thought, as we
passed his place of business, that he was
one of the most perfect models of industry
we have ever seen. Late and early his
loom was in operation. He was retired in
his habits, and unassuming in his man
ners. Peace to his ashes !

at the residence of the bride's father,

S. BOLSINGEIt and Miss LEVINIA C.

We cannot say as much for Sturge as
our brother friend of the Echo, in conse
quence of our not receiving two gold dol
lars or a pound-cake. But, we wish there
may never a cloud obscure their pathway,
and may they be happy in each other's
love, until death shall separate them.
