Persons who desire busine.-s notices
. inserted in the local column of our paper,
will be obliged to pay for them. The paper
'cannot be kept up if we publish notices of j
Ihi3 kind for nothing. H we step into a
etoteor shop and buy nothing more than
a shoe-string wo must pay for it. We pub
lish such notices only when requested to do
eo for pay,
tS? If we hear much more complaint
about all of Our papers not reaching certain
Post Offices in this county, we will be oblig
ed to place the matter in the hands of a de
tective and have it brought before the notice
of the authorities, and see if the remedy
tan't be applied. It is an outrage, that sub
scribers should pay for their papers and
then not receive them, but have thorn
"gobbled up" by some pilferer along the
line-. "
We don't eljiect to edit and publish
a paper to suit the taste and notion of every
body. That would be an impossibility. But
we do eipect and labor to publish a paper
acceptable to the great majority of our pa
trons; and in doing that, we do ilot intend
' or endeavor to please one particular class of
D
, people more than another, let that class
have wotn blue or continued to wear the
. dress of a civilian during the past five years.

Time of Game Three hours,
JSs?" We copy the following from the Lu
zerne llnim: Dr. S. I. DARRIN, so success
ful in the treatment of disease, during his
stay of nearly three months in Scranton and
Wiikesbarre, has concluded to stop in Dan
ville, at the Montour House, until June 2d,
1 SCO. We have read of many wonderful cures
performed by him and have not the least
hesitation in recommending him to the pub
lic. It is an easy matter to denounce anv
Uhing as a humbug, as ha. been the theory
f the circulation of the blood, the applica-
tion of steam to machinery, and numerous
other things about which there is now no
chance lor dispute among men of intelligence.
All can satisfy themselves by. calling upon
the Dr. Hi3 treatment is pleasant." as he
gives no medicine. . Read carefully his cir
cular enclosed, and if all other nicdicines
have failed, try Da. Darrin.
Jr. o. fcince the above has been put in
tjpe we are informed that Dr. Darrin will
visit this place for one week. He will stop
at the Exchange Hotel, from June 4 th to
June 2 th.
- 7 The month of May has so far been a
very singular one this j-ear. Our oldest cit
izens say that, to the best of their recollec
tion, there has never been so many changes
in the weather and such a constant and
withering drouth in the month of May as
has been experienced in the present month.
Almost every man we moot, is despairing of
the cropj and coraplaing of the dry weather.
It is now certain that the grass and grain
crop will be a short one this year. We think
that few will this year sing, "Farewell sweet,
moist, and growing days of May." But fear
not, friends. He who rules the weather
rules well.
P. S. Since the above was written we
have enjoyed a fine refreshing fdiowcr, mak
ing vegetation and the crops generally pre
sent decidedly an improved appearance.

SOT" The Republicans of this town do not
seem so rancorous as they did a few year
ajro. They don't appear to josscse so much
of that malignant spirit, hatred and malice
towards Democrats the true Union men of
the country as they did in 1S61 up to 1SC5.
The words traitor, r-ympathizer, and rebel,
are not so frequently heard to escape their
lips. Something milder is now being said
of Democrats, but the same general epithets
arc applied by them to .President Johnson,
seemingly without fear or f.ivor, since they
have Congress arrayed in opposition to him.
They had better be a little careful, for fear
Mr. Seward might ring that "little bell,"
and have some of them arrested, which
might cause a speedy and radical change in
their "loyalty."
CsS" On the 21th inst. the pavement near

ver, wi! coming with galloping fqVed. and
wa3 expected every sceond to sweep sulkies,
gigs,-carriages and spring wagons from the
street sides, but fortunately, theleaders.in at
tempting to make a short turn, were throwD
on the pavement, the other horses and
wagon j topped nobody hurt nor nothing
broke except "old daddy Stroup's" shade
tree and store sign. We are glad that the
whole affair, which created intense excite
ment for a few moments, ended with scarce
ly significance enough for a local item in a
newspaper.
SF The Republican party of thi3 county
follow the lead of such men as Thad. Ste1
vens, Charles Sumner, Wendell Phillips, and
John W. Forney. These men are avowed
enemie3 of President Johnson ; they are
using all the influence they possibly can to
destroy Mr. Johnson's administration ; they
are openly opposed to the restoration of this
Union, unless they can accomplish universal
suffrage for the negro. These same men
declared the "war for the Union," but a
short time ago, and now utterly deny, by
their actions, that it was ever carried on for
any such purpose. Yet the Republicans of
thi3 county continue to endorse such disun-
ionists!
. 'E The editor of the Bejmblican of this
place, boastingly announced in his lasi that,
in all lu3 tratel through five States, he did
not meet one Republican who supports John
