PECTUS
THE
DAILY STATU CAflTOZj aASaTTTH.
THE editors of the State Capitol Gazette, at the
urgent aolicitation of rminirous Democrslic
friend in almost every country of the Common
wealth, have come to the conclusion, to publih,
during the sittings of the approaching session of the
Legislature, the
mute nprroL gazette, daily.
The Daily Gizktt: will la? ptinted en a voy
al sheet nf tine paper, whrcii will be sufficiently
laigc to contain full reports of proceedings of both
branches of the Legislature. In carrying out our
intention of publishing a daily pir at the seat of
Government, we will of course tajliject ourselves to
heay expenditure, and will coneqtienlly expect
the Democracy of Pennsylvania to lully round us,
and sustain us in our undertaking. To mal ic Us
to give full report ol the proceedings nf the Le
gislature, we have made arrangements for placing
in each Hou-v a conitrnt stenngrapber, the ability
and professional experience of one of whom at
least, is universally admitted both here and else
i wtiere. In addition to thia, we have engaged, at a
ennsidif able expense, the valuable services of our
I lale Washington Correspondent, whose rtyle of
writing, the forcible, energetic, and fearless man
ner in which he laid bare the doings of Federalism,
and the faithful predictions which he gave, during
the trtraordhtartf session of Congretw, is lamili ir
to our numerous leaders, many of whom have
chetrfully admitted to u, in person, that Cleon"
is one i f the bent political wiitcrs of tlte day, and
have urgvd ua ngaiu to pria-ure his aid us our cor
respondent at the seat ol the Gent ral Government.
As regards the future course of the Gazette, we
deem It unnecessary to s-iy moie than ill at it will al
ways be found, as heretofore, a warm u'rter t f
the great principle of Democracy, and battling f.iiih
fully, for the welfare, promotion, and happiness of
the People st large. The banking systi in, as it ia
at picsuit conducted, believing, as we do, that it is
euliula'ed to spread dUties, nneiy and ruin in e
ery commuiriiy where its polluting influence is
felt, shall continue to mret from the Gazette the
name di lermined o imihii it always ha met wi ll,
until the hired coalitions and combinations of ban
kers, speculators, and stock-jobhcis, ahull be made
to feel that the will of the people is acrn km e. Ha
ling la en the ardent and zealous supporters of the
re-election of our present worthy Executive, Dtviu
R. PoiiTkn, it shall be our pride and pleasure to
give to his administration a Grin, decided and ho
nest support.
In puUishing a daily psper, we are well aware
of the heavy lesponsibiluy thai will rest upon us,
aa its editors and conductor. We are firmly con
vened, however, that a Democratic daily paoer ut
,
the seat of governmi nt, is much needed, sod at the
suggestion of our Deniociatic friends, we havebeeu
induced to commence the uudeitsking, pruided
rraional le encouragement is given to warrant it.
I The vi ry moderate lerms at which we oiler our dai

1 that (he ol jeet is not to resh.e therefrom an extra
' vagant compensation for our lal ors. On the other
