Borou"h luck seemed particularly to run

every druggist that was in the first class,
seven lawyers, and eight butchers drafted.
Through! the,distriet the ministers seemed to
tuffer. In one township in Fulton County,
of the eighteen names that were drawn, six
were litellott'e. There were twelve colored,
persons drawn, in Chambersbnrg, and twenty
three in Antrim Township. Though we
have often•heard objections Made to the en-,
listing of colored men, at the drawing, ev
body seemed pleased when. they weredrawn,
and seemed to think their chances so much
the better for it. In: some • districts two,

, THE planting seasen iS rapidly approaching,
and our readers are earnestly urged to im

Franklin county'our People have sadly ne - -
gleeted- this iniportaut duty. But few culti
vate apples and peaches;und the result isthat
in the fall we go to Jersey for our peaches,

for apples. qur climate is better than that
,of New York for fruit, and a large portion
Of :our Soil is perfectly adapted fruit of
evdry - .kind: Our sh;te lands are always un
dulating, and - Ivill produce the very best, and
even our' heavy limestone well re-pays care:-
ful cultivation of, the apple, peach, straw
gram &c., although they cannot be
brought to so- high a degree ,of perfection as
in lighter soil.

trees at very -moderate prices, and we can
confidently -recommend them as all he claims
-them to be. He has personally superintend
ed the grafting of his stocks, and his varie
ties may be implicitly relied_ on. He also has
a fine assortment of btrnwberries, which we
have' tested in our own - grounds, and can
certify to their superiority.
Mr. Knox, of . Pittiburg, whose cards are
in our advertising Ctilumns, isone of the most
thorough and reliable Fruitista in the State:
Indeed welnow of none we would so confi
dently trust in filling an order for.firat class
vines. He has devoted many years to the
propagation of the grapeand strawberry, and
is entirely master of his busineit We would
unhesitatingly advise our readers who want
the best of vines to send hini r their orders.
He will fill them with the utmost fidelity, and
every confidence can be be 'felt that ,You are
eultivating exactly what you: haves'ordered.
Every family that has a spare foot-ofground
should have grape vines 'on it. They need
but very little care,-and Inv ten:fold every
labor they demand. . •

Five men Wore justly shot in the Army of the
Potomac on Saturday last for becoming the
