The Tyrone Wide shouldn't attempt to
'"heave" the shortcomings of some of its

Last Sunday was a beautiful day; and
feeing so many persons out walking over the
cemetery hill, and other places usually

Prevailed extensive fires or the rooan
uitu north of this place, last week. Much
valuable timber was destroyed. The fires
were, evidently, enkindled by persons

Current a report that a cave had been
discovered on the hill east of Mr. A. II.
Shaw's residence. It is said, that tome
lersons hating seeu smoke ascending from
the lull, an 1 being curious to know what
caused it, went there and found it issuing
fieui a cave. As the "cave" has not yet
become public, it is supposed the story was
hoax. An exploration of the hill, would
tnore likely reveal a rendevous for cooking

Almost a Suicide. A yonng man who
has been sojourning in this place for some
months, for some cause, we suppose best
known to himself, attempted to commit sui
cide cn Saturday evening of last week, by
taking' an ounce of laudanum. -The in
mates ot the house learning the sad state
into which he had plunged himself, were
prompt in summoning medical aid, and
thus saved hiui from an untimely death.

This journal holds on its course with uo les
sened merit or ability. Sunday Schools had

vicinity the ledge being about twenty feet
in thickness, and the stone of excellent
quality. Persons in want of building stone,

Circus and Menagerie Coming. J. E.
Warner & Co's. Great Pacific Menagerie
and Circus, an entire new organization, will
exhibit in Clearfield, Monday Ma 1st.
This being the first show of the season, and
oue of tbe most extensive and best equip
ped in the country, it will draw large crowds.
The Menagerie Contains rare and curious
beasts and birds from all parts of the world
elephants, lions, tigers, leopards, pan
thers; ostriches, zebras, bears, elks, hyenax,
a colony of monkeys, reptiles, fee. Their
elephant, "Empress," is the largest in A
merica, weighing 12, -ISO pounds, and stand
ing eleven feet four inches in height. This

nivals in the Old World for mora than a
centnry past, nd hai been respectively the
property of the Crowned Heads of China,

presented by Alexander in 1S62 to Kreuitz
buri. a popular exhibitor of Wild Animals
at that time in St. Petersburg. She was
taken to Moscow, thence into Gerihany,
where she was purchased by uo Agent of
the Gre.-it Pacific Menagerie and Circus.and
brought to this country in June, 1870. The
circus embraces splendid and daring riders,
intrepid gymnasts acrobats of unusual
skill scholarly clowns, who are full of hu
morous jokes, sparkling wit and quaint ideas
strangely developed freaks of animals sa
gacity, exhibited by trained horses, trick
ponies and comicmules with.a multiplicity
of other features. The whole gigantic ex
hibition is shown under one immense can
vas, and for One single price oi admission.
A fine street display will take place' in the
morning at ten o clock.
