Tyrone and Clearfield Railroad ; and on the

Livingston, E-q., has created a vacancy in
the Assessor-ship in the 19th Congressional
district. We are glad to learn that an effort
is making for the appointment of Mr. E.
Livingston, the eldest son of the deceased,
upon whom, in a great measure, will devolve
the care of a large and dependent family.
Young Livingston being familiar with the
business of the office, having transacted
most of it during the past two years, is ful
ly competent to discharge the duties of the
position. We hope the appointment will
be made. .

the last issue of the Republican you will see
that Curwensville is noted for the produc
tion of two remarkable curiosities, viz:
"fools," who write for the Jot'RNAL. and
sages, who write for the llrpuhliran. One
of the latter, a sort of paragon, who signs
himself "Democrat," seems very much ex
ercised over a letter which appeared in your
columns signed "II.," and in his righteous
indignation he completely annihilates poor
II. with a single stroke of his powerful pen.
It certainly was very strong presumptive
evidence of the insanity of II., and very
imprudent in him to refer to the antecedents
of Mr. J'omeroy just at that time, (when
silence" would have been so much more ac
ceptable to the admirers of the lecturer.)
but Deuioc.-at seems to have forgotten that
"fools' and children speak the truth."
Would it not have been better for Democrat
to deny or refute lhe charges made by II.
instead of howling 'fools and fanatics,"but
that is pre-cinineut'y Ivuiocrat-ic argument.
Again Democrat is shock. '1 at the "inde
