XoewoFftcrr Trxxs. The most Thai
period in the life of a fruit tree is daring the
first three years ot iia youth. It is then
only when it can be properly trained, easily
managed, and well protected. If as many
undoubtedly are, they are crammed hastily
into small holes dag in hatd soil, left with
out manure, permitted to be overrun with
grass or weeds, or what Li still wowe, the
ground persistently cropped with grain, is
it at all surprising so many trees fail, and so
many orchards are entirely starved ? Treat
ment like this, is nothing but throwing away
capital, with absolutely no prospect of re
turns. If, on the other hand, a few trees
are well planted, in good deep rich soil, well
pruned yearly, and kept clear of insects and
worms, it takes a few years to bring them
into a productive condition, and ten trees
well cared for will yield five fold more than
one hundred indifferently planted. The
contrast between thrifty and unthrifty trees,
etares at us everywhere we go. We are as
tonished, after all the exhortations of the
press to cultivators "to take care of their
fruit trees," to see how little heed the great
mass give to it. Young trees must be well
planted. Plant less, rather than more ; al
ways manure highly, and once each year
examine the trunk and bark for worms.
Precautions like these, demanding only a
few moment's time to each tree, are the Al
pha and Omega of successful fruit culture.
Care for your trees as well as for your chil
dren, and it will never be said of you
"He planted for hU heirs,"
for your own hand will pluck the fair fruit
that never would come if the trees had been
left to themselves.
Horses. Groom once a day. Stable
nights ; if not in use, let them have the run
of a brush pasture by day. When there is
a great variety of weeds and grass and bush
es, never give more than a bucket ot water,
or three quarts of oats if the horse is soon
to be used. Feed well half an hour after
he comes in warm. Never let a horse cool
off in the wind. Throw a big woolen blank
et over him ; throw back half at a time to
rub him down ; replace it and let him stand
until cool and dry; theu cover with a Iineu
duster to keep his coat clean. A horse is
better off during the severest nights with a
duster on him, than warmly blanketed.
Remedy roa Chicken Mites. A cor
respondent of the Rural World pronounces
the following an effectual remedy. Take
common leaf tobacco, as much as the user
may think necessary and make a strong tea,
letting it boil some time, so as to get all the
strength from the tobacco, then sprinkle the
tea all over and about the place where the
mites are, and if the first application is not
sufficient, use in the same manner a second
time, but the first time is almost always ef
feetuaL Mix chaff with corn or beans, and do not
give the latter alone. Because it makes the
horse chew his lood niore.aud digest it better

much valuable information
Dr. R. W. Carr, oS Baltimore, says :
VI take pleasure in recommetding your
Bosadalis as a very powerful alterative. I
have seen it nsed in two eases with happy
results one in a ease of secondary syphilis
in which the patient pronounced himself
cured after having taken five bottles of
Dyonr medicine The other is a ejus of scrof
ula of long standing, which is rapidly im
proving under its use, and the indications
are- that the patient will soon recover. I
have carefully examined the formula by
which your Roeadalis is made, and find it
A an excellent compound of alterative ingre.
dients.
Dr. Sparks, of Kicholasville, Ky., says he
has nsed Rotadalis in eases of Scrofula and
Secondary Syphilis with satisfactory results
as a cleaner of the Blosd I know no bet-

Samuel G. McFadden, Murfreesboro',
Tenn , says:
I have used seven bottles of Rosadalia.
and am entirely cured of Rheumatism : send
me four bottles, as I wish it for my brother,
Iwbo has scrofulous sore eyes.
Benjamin Becntol, of Lima, Ohio, writes,
I have suftered for twenty years ith an in

the Summer and Autumn, and remarkabl' so du

being eloggednp with vitiated accumulations. In
their treatment, a purgative. exerting a powerful
influence upon these various organs, is essentially
necessary. There is no cathartic for the purpose
