rides larger wheels produce less friction, be

will sink deeper in uioit earth than large
wheels but there is no good reason why the
hind wheels of a w?gon should be hitrlier
than the front wheels. By havina the hind
wheels highest, the inclination forwar of
the line or traition would press the load in
to the earth, consequently there would be
increased difficulty in drawing it. A wajon
with four-inch tire will sink in the ground
only about one-fourth as deep as two inch
tire. In general, farmers put too much tar
and grease in their wagon wheels, which
clogs, and makes the waaon fun heavy. It
is much better to grease every day and keep
the spindle of the axeltree perfectly clean
and bright, if even the irons of the axel
should wear out sooner and require to be
renewed again.
It has often been asked whether spring or
fall planting is the best, for rav part 1 would
prefer srring plantinz IJT fruit trees or
plants, but if intended to order from a dis
tance, I would advUe you to order ia the
fall, and heel them in over winter, in a dry
sheltered spot; in this way they will then
be handy to plant as soon as the ground is
in a good condition, but if intended to pro
cure them of a home nursery, you mav save
that trouble, as you can order them in tLe
spring, and plant them as soon as the ground
it ic good condition.
Feed the sound leaves of cabbages and
plants that fail to head, and also the tops of
the root crops. Thoss calving at this time
should have succulent fo id, pumpkins and
root, with oil-cake. This will give them
nlentv of milk, and the flow may easily be
maintained. They should have warm sta
bles and a sunny jard. Cows in full jnilk
can not eat too much of proper food. If
they grow fat upon it, it is pretty sure evi
dence that they are better lit for the sham
bles than for the dairy.
