Found Dead. TVe Pittsburg Gitte of
Saturday, January 21st, gives the billowing
particulars of the death of George B. Gal
loway, formerly of this place :
Coroner West last bight was called to hold
an inquest on the body of a man named
George B. Galloway, found dead in his room
No. 56 Second avenue. His room mates,
Samuel Black and Lowrie Moore, testified
that on Thursday eveninp they, about seven
o'clock, left, him lying oft'a lounge, as they
supposed, asleep and went to the Academy
of Music to witness the exhibition of the
panorama of the Pilgrim, . and returned
about ten o'clock and found him still lying
in tbe same place with his head covered.
Thy paid no attention to this, however, as
they thought that he was in a state of stu
por from the effect of the liquor which he
had been indulging in to excess ever since
the first of January last, and that a sound
sleep would do him good. Yesterday morn
ing he was still sleeping apparently, and they
did not disturb him, but went about their
usual business. On returning to tho room
lior r i . r 1 1 f of civ n n rr ia mnm.TTintA In'-
came alarmed at finding him still in the
same position exactly that he had occupied I
when he left him in the morning, and ap
proached lor the purpose of seeing if any
thing was the matter, and found him. dead.
The servant who attends to the room, sta
ted that when she went to' clean the room
yesterday morning, he was lying on the
lounge, as she supposed, asleep, and not li
king to disturb him, she deferred making
the beds till the afternoon, at which time
she went back and found him still in the
same position, but knowing that he had been
drinking, she thought that it was nothing
but the stupor produced by lager, and paid
no attention to him, made her bods and left
the room.
Dr. Gilie-pie. Dentist, of To. 246 Penn
avenue, stated that Galloway was a median
ical dentist, and hail been in his employ for
the past five years, and that he had dischar
ge! 1 him on Wednesday last for drunken
ness, f-ince which time he had not seen him.
Dr. Gi'morc made a jwst mnrtan examin
ation and stated that death was caused by
the excessive u.e of alcoholic stimulants.
The jury returned a verdict in accordance
with the facts.
He was unmarried and leaves no relatives
in this city.

Dear Journal: Thinking you, and the
readers of the Journal, would like to hesr

In the first place, our little borough, in
.the opinion of the triennial assessors.standa
ahead of any other borough in the county,
as to the value of its property. Being but
about six years old, and containing not over
about half as many buildings as our county
town, should we not feel proud thaCto day,
our valuation is only the small sum of $143,

assessors, elected by the people to sen e
them, are men of ability ; and, I assure you,
had they been called upon to serve as jurors
in the case of Harder for the murder of
Dale, with B. on their right, a verdict much
more astonishing to the people would have
been rendered, than in the case just chroni
cled. Should the party who is on the hunt
for slabs to manufacture jurymen out of,
succeed iu finding more than are necessary
for his purpose, he might, perhaps, use the
overplus in furnishing assessors for this place,
to wit : ' One to have a fair corporation,
the second to be of medium stature, and the
third able to sing "Tim Finigan's Wake"
and "Pat Maloy" not more than two of
them to have a hankerine after "benzine,"
while the third should be of good moral
character.
The work on the new mill of the Moshan

are that by the first of April, the mil! will

be the liveliest seasou ever experienced in
this place.
Building is going on rapidly. A three

side of the Moshannon, which will add much
to the appearance of our towa. More anon.
