his lif. It wa.i atle vst a half hour before
he couM by res.-ued from the ruins of the
locomotive, aod then, oh, what a fearful
sittht! The lever by which the engineer
controls the emine, know as the throttle
lever, a rod of iron about three feet long,
and an inch by an inch and a half in size,
had struck him on the lower part of the
right temple and been driven through un
derneath his nose, coming oat on the oppo

lever was yet attached to its pb:ce. and thus
the unfortunate man was transfixed to the
locomnt've. The lever was unscrewed and
detached from the engine ai'd the engineer
carried to a house with this iron bolt still
through his head, and in this condition he
remained for two and a half hours, until
Dr. Cutler was sent for.at this place, who,
uoon his arrival, removed it, gave the man
the proper surgical attendance, an J cared
for him as best he could. Mr. Donovan
was broucht to this place 3'esierday evening,
and provided com forta'ole quarter at Mi

r.uf of their sockets, his ribs on his right
side are badly bruised, but. strange to say,
at this writing ho is still alive, though little
hope is entertained of his recovery."
